Death Battle Analysis: Jason Voorhees

Happy Friday The 13th! A day of Superstition, of misfortune and bad luck, people must tread carefully to protect themselves on this day, that is unless you happen to come across a particular undead mama's boy, when that happens...you’re already dead.

Note: Some of the images for powers are taken from videogames, this is due to them being good visual examples, all of these abilities are infact present in the films, Novels and comics

Background

In Cunningham County, New Jersey, there exists a small, woodland town called Crystal Lake, named after the pristine, inviting lake there. The town is pleasant, peaceful, sleepy even, with nice down to Earth folks and even a fun summer camp for the kids. But looks can be deceiving, for in this quaint country town, a legend is harbored, a legend so foul it has struck fear into people for decades, a birthplace for fear….and it all started...on Friday the 13th.

Jason Voorhees was born to the single mother Pamela Voorhees on June 13th of 1946. He suffered from severe physical and mental deformities from birth, but despite that, his mother loved him more than anything in the whole wide world.

Pamela worked at a diner in town and constantly worried for her son. She kept him at home and homeschooled him, for the first decade of his life he seldom left the house, his only friend being his mother. One day in 1957, Pamela was approached by her boss and Mr. Christy about a better paying job as a cook at a summer camp that was about to open called Camp Crystal Lake.

Despite needing the money Pamela was hesitant as she couldn’t leave Jason out of her close care, but Mr. Christy managed to convince her saying they’d be happy to have Jason come too, be a camper, socialize with other kids, it’ll be good for him and that they’d have counselors watch him every minute. This arrangement worked, for awhile, as one day two of the counselors that were supposed to be watching Jason decided to leave him by himself in order to go have sex.

While alone, Jason got ganged up on by a bunch of bullies who tormented him for his deformities and chased him through the camp, and over the edge of the dock. Jason...wasn’t a very good swimmer, the bullies ditched out to not get busted and with no one around, Jason drowned in the lake.

Unable to accept the loss of her son, Pamela grew desperate to find a way to bring him back, and eventually she found one when she got her hands on the Necronomicon.

The Necronomicon is a demonic book of the dead, made of flesh and written in Blood. With this monstrosity, Pamela recited a spell to resurrect Jason, which worked, Jason rose from the lake, but Pamela would never know it, as Jason, unwilling to go back into the world where he could be tormented again, journeyed into the woods to live as a hermit, not risking going to find her.

Thinking it a failure, Pamela became unhinged and the next year she snuck into the camp and murdered the two counselors that caused Jason to drowned, shutting down the camp as a result. She went on to sabotage every attempt to reopen the camp made after with fire, bad water or damaged supplies, until the year 1979, when no matter what she tried the Camp was still going to open. On that night of Friday, June 13th 1979, Jason’s birthday, the Nightmare truly began. Pamela brutally killed the entire staff at the camp one by one in a delusional rampage.

Eventually leaving one councilor Alice Hardy, who after a lengthy chase and struggle, killed Pamela in self defence by decapitating her with a machete. Alice thought her troubles were over that night, but she was wrong, as all the noise the struggle had drawn caused the now adult Jason to go towards the campground, where he witnessed his beloved mother's murder. This is what caused Jason to take his vengeance upon the world.

Jason stole his mother’s severed head and sweater before the police showed up and constructed a shrine for them back at his selfmade cabin in the woods. And after 2 months of searching, he tracked down Alice to her new home and murdered her with an Icepick before returning to Crystal Lake. Jason now considers Crystal Lake the sacred burial ground of his mother, the only person who had ever loved him, anyone who trespassed there was disrespecting his mother, and thus he would kill them without question. 

This rule was broken in 1984 when another camp was being setup.

Jason went on a 3 day long killing spree slaughtering dozens of people at that camp, along with Barns, Vacation Homes, Convenience stores and more, forever giving this area the nickname, Camp Blood. Eventually, Jason was finally killed by his greatest adversary Tommy Jarvis when he was only 12 years old.

Jason Voorhees was dead, but the story is far from over. After brutally chopping Jason up, Tommy was committed to a mental asylum, and when let out after over a decade, Tommy thought it’d be therapeutic to go and destroy Jason’s corpse.

Tommy dug him up he took his anger out stabbing him with a metal fence post, but when he left to start a fire on it, a bolt of lightning struck the rod and Jason Lived.

Well...kinda. Jason was no longer a human, he was a revenant, an extremely powerful mentally conscious zombie. According to the Necronomicon’s curse, Jason becomes more powerful every time he returns from the dead. This is the actual explanation for why he seems to become stronger, tougher, harder to kill and with access to more powers with every sequel.

So after killing a huge amount more people, Jason was eventually brought down again by Tommy Jarvis, who trapped him underneath crystal lakes waters.

Now before we get absolutely crazy, I’d just like to say what I think makes Friday The 13th special is not how it goes insane, it's that it goes exponentially insane. Like it skips several steps of insanity, this is a story about a supernatural killer in the woods, you think they would have had him fight a bear or something before going full future space horror. 

So back on topic..

Jason was then brought back to life by Tina, a girl who has unexplained telekinesis and other mind powers. She did this attempting to revive her father who had died in the lake years prior, Jason, after murdering tons of people, fought her and eventually won, but before he could kill her, her actual dad rose from the lake and dragged Jason back with him to save her.

After that he was resurrected by a bunch of hillbilly cultists that thought Jason was some righteous force of god, that only kills sinners and got tracked by the US Government who want to study his regeneration powers, which leads to Jason rampaging through a shootout between the two groups, destroying both sides.

After that Jason ends up in Hell, and like several things happen there, including Jason learning how to cut peoples faces off from the actual Ed Gein, overpowering the Devil and stealing his trident as a weapon, and leading an entire army of serial killers up a random staircase that that leads back to a lake on Earth which apparently is a thing.

After that blew over he was found by a bonnie and clyde style serial killer couple who believed Jason would see eye to eye with their cause and join up with them...he didn’t.

He was at one point captured and taken to an island off of Costa Rica to partake in a reality show where they release Death Row inmates on their with him, and it devolved into a zombie epidemic plot. Also while there, Jason fought a great white shark, cause why not.

After that Jason was held at an evil circus and was going to be sold off but escaped with the help of his Ghost Mom.

Then Jason climbed aboard the absolute least luxurious cruise ship of all time, killed almost everyone and chased the survivors through New York City, before being stopped because I kid you not, the fact sewers flood out with Toxic Waste Every Night at Midnight.

Which somehow made him temporarily a little boy in his underwear that looks nothing like he did as a little boy.

When that evidently wore off, he walked back to crystal lake where he was blown to pieces by a massive ariel strike, Great job guys only took you 30 years.

But then he got outta that by mind screwing a coroner into eating his heart and he kept taking over people's bodies until he reformed his mass in the womb of his deceased half-sister….wtf.

And was banished permanently to hell after being stabbed with a magic dagger by his niece.

He then was brought back to life by the reality warping powers of Freddy Krueger, who tricked Jason into killing people in his town of springwood in a plan to make people afraid so he could feed of the fear and return.

But when Jason didn’t stop killing people Freddy attacked him and the two fought A LOT. Eventually Jason pulled the win with some outside help but Freddy secured himself in Jason’s mind and convinced him to get the Necronomicon to get Freddy out.

Which lead to Jason fighting Ash Williams, and fighting Ash Williams and Freddy at once, and eventually teaming up with Freddy, who revitalized Jason, and had him lead an army of Deadites on a fricking siege on Washington DC.

Jason was eventually captured in the year 2010 where he ended up being cryogenically frozen...for 445 years. In the year 2455, on the desolate wasteland Earth became, Jason was found by archaeologists from Earth 2, yes this future is cynical enough to say we’re gonna destroy the planet, but also optimistic enough to say we before that mastered deep space travel and all sorts of other insanely impressive stuff in the same timeframe.

The crew takes him back where he eventually wakes up, and starts killing but is put down by the dorkiest badass android chick ever.

Jason is then brought back to life by Nanobots which rebuild him into the powerful undead cyborg known as Jason X (I know he's technically called Uber Jason but that name sucks).

Jason X has done a lot of ridiculous stuff, he's destroyed spaceships hes been launched to an evil planet 666, he’s taken down an entire moon dedicated to camping because that's clearly the most efficient use of space,

he's fought numerous clones of himself, including his bioengineered son who was aborted, but was brought back through time distortion stuff….honestly the amount of insane bs I had to cut out for you people is astounding.

Needless to say Jason has been through a Lot, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming the biggest legend in slasher films. He has made the Hockey mask an iconic symbol of Horror and has been so ingrained in pop culture even Godzilla would be impressed. Jason may be a mama’s boy, but you know what, he’s the scariest mama’s boy EVER!

Personality

Jason’s personality is somewhat interesting to think about, there is no doubt he is an absolute killing machine, but his personality is still largely that of a very messed up child. He didn’t even know fully what death was until he saw his mom killed. Jason afterward developed a sort of numbness to both physical and mental pain. Because of this, Jason is completely and absolutely Fearless, no matter what overwhelming things he's up against he will never show the slightest hint of fear cause he legit does not care anymore about what happens, he only wants to protect the land that's his from those that would disrespect it. That said, Jason very much does have morals and limits to how far he will go, Jason for one thing has never harmed a child, anyone under the age of 13, despite having plenty of opportunities to do this, in fact he once stopped his pursuit of a would be victim upon discovering she was pregnant. He’s also never been proven to harm animals. Lastly, while more willing to, won’t kill people that haven’t intruded in Crystal Lake unless they insult him or get in the way of his actual goals.

Intelligence

In spite of his mental illnesses and lack of formal education, Jason actually is quite smart and tactical, contrary to popular belief. Jason can read and write, he's constructed a house for himself and even created a perfectly functioning rope snare trap. He will also take steps to ensure his victims can’t escape or seek help by cutting the phone lines, stealing cell phones and flattening car tires. When a man was hunting him, Jason lured him out of his camp and sabotaged his weapon stock. Jason is also good at hiding in shadows and attacking in angles he is not expected to attack from, like someone who runs from him will barricade themself behind a door expecting him to try that first only for him to grab them through a window. Jason knows the human anatomy enough to slash victims in ways that make running impossible. Finally Jason is a master of using the corpses of his victims to his advantage, using them often as bait to lure others, decoys for himself and even setting them in places for intentional jumpscares just to misdirect his victims attention.

Powers

General Biology: His heart is twice the size of a normal person yet he doesn't have blood only a viscous black fluid, likely demonic in nature.

Human:

• Illusions:

Jason’s presence and things related to him can cause people to have horrific hallucinations related to his past, even if they have no knowledge of him.

• Fear Aura:

Jason’s presence produces an aura of fear that makes the entire town of Crystal Lake and those he's near terrified and often unwilling to stop him, to the point of making several people rave about the area’s Death Curse. He can activate this mid fight causing his opponent to become confused and have difficulty fighting back against him.

• Super Senses:

Jason has good enough senses to generally knows where everyone is at all times. One time he even killed a girl as she ran down the stairs in her home by throwing an axe straight through her front door into her, despite there being know way he could have seen inside as he did it. He can sense people over a wide area based on their levels of adrenaline, in addition to tracking the scent of bodily fluids and hearing quiet breathing. The more afraid his victim is the easier he’ll find them.

• Healing:

Jason’s healing ability, that lets him shrug off fatal injuries like bee stings, is the one he is most known for. Jason has casually endured deep slashing and stabbing wounds from blades in very critical places like the heart and neck. He’s been bludgeoned with large blunt objects, hung on a noose and even hit square in the forehead with an axe and still refused to go down. Even when he had his head nearly cut in half with a machete, he still showed signs of healing, and was only killed after being struck with said machete repeatedly until his head was shredded to pieces.

Revenant:

In his Revenant form Jason is everything he is in Human form, but also so much better, maintaining his super senses and fear aura and gaining several new and upgraded powers.

• Can Breath Without Oxygen:

Long story short, Jason is undead and therefore has no need to breath, he can effortlessly survive underwater and even in the vacuum of space.

• Regeneration:

Jason’s Healing ability has since increased to a powerful regenerative factor. He can now near instantly regenerate from being shot through the torso and head by literally thousands of high powered machine gun bullets at once, all manner or broken bones and heavy slashes and stabs with blades. Jason quickly regained most of his mass after over a decade of decay upon just waking up and was unfazed by a grenade exploding at his feet that cut his arm off and left a car tire sized hole in his chest. In Church of the Divine Psychopath he was unfazed by being riddled with thousands of bullets made specifically to kill him and regenerated a leg that was blown off by a specially designed grenade.

In the Freddy VS Jason VS Ash comics he even managed to get up and walk away after Tommy Jarvis decapitated him. And while it took ample time, his most impressive feat was shown in Jason X where after he lost his arm, his leg, most of his chest and had his head blown off, while his body went on to become Jason X via nano tech, he didn’t need it, as his severed head pieces eventually grew a new body,

which then fought and lost to Jason X, but then Jason X ripped out the part of its brain it regened from and put it into his own head to fully restore his memory.

• Electricity Absorption:

Lightning and Electricity is something Jason is able to absorb, it can and has multiple times resurrected him, and additionally both heals and strengthens him.

• Teleportation:

After coming back in Part VIII Jason gained the ability of teleportation, there is literally no question he has this as in this movie he does stuff like chase people down the stairs only to appear at the bottom of stairs to kill them and he even chased a girl into a large room and managed to literally be standing static in every single direction she turned. Since then he has been portrayed as having this ability and has an effective range of several miles.

• Hallucinogenic Manifestations:

Jason’s Illusion powers have also received an upgrade as they can manifest as physical entities to grab and trap victims.

They also can actually do damage now, effectively meaning Jason can kill people with his mind.

• Possession:

Jason is now a disembodied consciousness, his body is just meat and destroying it is merely an inconvenience for him. He can hypnotize people into taking his essence into themselves, even while he's nothing more than a pile of severed pieces. From there he can transfer from person to person once he get in close range to those he wants to switch to. People possessed by him, get access to his strength and regenerative powers. However people that he transfers out of...melt which is pretty horrific, the reason for it being a normal body can’t handle his power. Jason can also completely reform his body from that of any blood relative of his, including their dead remains. 

• The Strain:

The Jason Strain, is a highly contagious virus from Jason’s blood that turns people into bloodthirsty zombies. Those under its effects become super strong, super hard to kill and begin mass murdering all in their path. This turned an entire island into monsters.

Jason X:

Jason X unlike the last was rebuilt as a cybernetic and thus hasn’t displayed many of the powers possessed by Revenant or Human. What he does have includes:

• Power Detection:

Jason X Can sense other powerful foes.

• Regeneration:

Now Jason X’s nano tech is capable of reconstructing him from very small pieces of himself, even single drops of blood.

• Hacking:

Nano Tech can hack into advanced computer systems and AI in a short time frame.

• Bodily Control:

Jason X’s Nanotech can enter into a person's body and take control of them. This can work on large amounts of people at once and cause them to perform grizzly murders.

Weaponry

Oh weapons, there exists many options in choosing them, and Jason is proficient with Many MANY of them. Jason likes to use a large variety of different weapons to perform his kills and as such will use pretty much anything to do it, however he does have a favorite.

Jason’s primary weapon is an over two foot long single edged Machete, which he uses in what's probably poetic justice for his mother being killed with one. Jason has easily killed the most people with this tool and carries this around nearly everywhere, even when using another weapon, he often has one of these sheathed on his person. Eventually he began using two Machetes at once. Appart from the Machete Jason’s standard equipment also consists of him having several smaller knives on his person.

Overall weapons, Jason is heavily provicent with several types of Axes, Spears, Cleavers, Pitchforks, PickAxes, Sickles, Hammers, Chains, a giant crazy Buzzsaw polearm, and heck he's even used the actual Devil’s trident. And while close range combat is his bread and butter, Jason is also skilled in distance weapons, like the Bow and Arrow, Harpoon Guns and heck in the novels he actually used an Assault Rifle.

Jason has numerous useful skills for combat, his most famous being his total mastery of stealth, he is capable of moving perfectly silently and hiding well in the shadow, to maneuver through crowded houses undetected with the utmost ease. Jason is also incredibly good at tracking, able to quickly hunt down and take out large numbers of targets in large crowded cities and secluded forests.

In actual combat, Jason is an amazing long distance marksman, weather it be rifles, archery or even throwing blades. Speaking of throwing blades, Jason is impossibly good at it he is able to flawlessly use not only knives in this manner but also larger much less balanced objects like Hatchets, Machetes, Axes and even hammers, and his aim is so good he can hit people behind solid walls.

Feats

Human:

• Nearly toppled part of his shack in a struggle with Paul
• Stabbed a spear through 2 people and a mattress casually
• Tore through a car roof

• Violently crushed a man's Skull in his bare hands
• Threw a grown man dozens of feet through a glass window
• Shattered a car window with a headbutt

• Threw an axe so hard it smashed through a hard would door and into a girl
• While swimming, he lifted a grown man out of the water by spear point with only one arm

• Instantly smashed through a solid wood door with just the sheer force of his walk
• Broke a rifle in two with his hands

• Threw a spear, with a woman already impaled on it, across a yard and it embedded itself deep into the side of a house
• Crushed a man's skull against a wall with one arm

Revenant:

• Punched through a guys chest and held his heart super casually
• He has multiple times punched straight through the human body without gore spilling out whatsoever. Average Fist surface is 0.054 square meters and average human body depth is about half of average human torso length which is ~ 0.4 m giving a cylinder volume of 0.37 m cubed. Density of human body is 985 kilograms per meter cubed, meaning he is vaporizing 364.45 kilograms. This means he is outputting somewhere between 3.29 to 4.113 MegaWatts, which is in the building level range.

• A Shovel blade completely shattered against his hide
• Grabbed a guy by the arm and threw him into a tree so hard it tore his arm off in his hand
• Smashed a chicks face into a wall so hard it left a perfect imprint in the metal
• Stabbed the driver of an RV in the head causing a huge high speed crash with him in it; Didn’t faze him
• Casually can turn someone's head completely around
• Stealthily jumped out of a tree and decapitated three people in one swing

• Cut a girl who was standing on the other side of a wall in half with one swing then grabbed her body before she hit the ground and disappeared with her in seconds

• Can move so fast he's invisible to the human eye
• At one point in the Novels, Jason before he had gotten the ability of teleportation, killed two characters in rapid succession despite them being on opposite sides of the lake. Crystal Lake is circular in shape, and it is stated it takes a car a half hour to drive from one side of the lake to the other. The speed limit in Crystal Lake is 35 mph so the Circumference of this lake is 35 miles. Assuming Jason took the fastest possible route by swimming straight across it this is a Mach 26 speed feat.

• Got hit by a car undamaged and tore the car apart immediately afterword
• Cut two people and an entire tree in half in one swing
• Freezing him only works temporarily

• It took actual bombardment from ariel artillery to sever his body parts

• The energy from his soul releasing into hell created a thunderstorm

• Stabbed his machete straight through an 15 inch thick reinforced metal chamber door
• Got a spaceship to collide with a space station completely destroying it
• Crushed a bed in his hands
• Smashed down a metal security door

• Endured a goddamn Freddy Krueger nightmare
• Smashed Freddy through an entire cabin and threw him into another cabin
• Was hit repeatedly by a wrecking ball like object

• He Tanked an enormous gasoline explosion which was so powerful it launched them far into the lake, created an earthquake, set the entire camp on fire, made a crater in the earth and created a Mushroom cloud. A Mushroom cloud suggests the explosion contained a potency of 10 Kilotons of TNT, since a weaker version of Jason in part 9 was only dismembered by a similar explosion this isn't an outlier.

• Further Backup can be found in the Freddy VS Jason VS Ash Comics, where Jason tanks numerous full force physical attacks from Freddy Krueger,

and at this point in the story that guy is so powerful he can casually create and

maintain storms large enough to largely eclipse entire mountains, and literally make it

rain blood.

• Effortlessly tanked hits from and overpowered KM, an android that brought the Revenant Jason to his knees
• Completely Bulletproof

• Was flying at speeds so fast it went from a point in space where Earth wasn’t visible to earth's atmosphere in 10 seconds
• Endured an explosion that cut a ship multiple city blocks in size in half
• Can smash metal walls like nothing
• Tanked a huge fiery spaceship crash

• Tanked crashing into earth as a meteor and making a creator the size of swimming pool
• Nosold an enormous explosion the size of a house
• Broke through huge reinforced metal restraints
• Turned the moon containing Camp Americana uninhabitable in less than a day, creating what is now called ‘Death Moon’
• Tanked bullets and a flamethrower
• Smashed through the wall of a spaceship from the outside and walked inside against the force of the air being sucked out

• Picked up a tree with a huge 6 foot wide trunk and threw it so hard it smashed two humans into paste
• Was launched from Earth II to planet 666 and was fine
• No sold atmospheric reentry
• Endured being Launched into Earth II’s Second moon by his ‘son’ Free Jefferson.
• Has latched on to space ships in mid flight before with intense reaction time, in Jason X: Death Moon this even included the UUSA (Universal Unmanned Space Arc), a vessel capable of traversing across the observable universe in a short time frame
• In Jason X: Third Power, Jason X tanked the gravitational force of a mini Black Hole, which was changing the rotation of Earth II and Elysium (a moon) as well as creating so much temporal distortion it somehow pulled Jason’s unborn cloned son from the past and aged it up to an adult...don’t ask.

The Prefered fight for Human Jason, these two have had a rivalry for decades as the original slasher villain VS the most popular slasher villain, and the fight is fair on all fronts with similar stats and powers. The similarities also are extremely numerous being masked, silent child minded stealthy murderers.

The Prefered fight for Revenant Jason, Nemesis is a giant zombie badass from resident evil who is in every way just as ridiculous as Revenant Jason with his over the top weapons and fighting skill in addition to also having powers and form changes that keep the fight quite interesting.

The Prefered fight for Jason X, Victor is from Darkstalkers and is basically anime frankenstein, he is definitely a powerhouse and speedster comparable to Jason X and is a cybernetic undead that fights in memory of their deceased parent. You also get a neat hero VS villain fight to boot.
