You know when you blog on two characters and don’t realize they would be a perfect match for each other until way later? No? Well that’s what we have today! In this sorta Halloween Special mini prediction, we look at two tragic souls turned into savage masked monsters, Painwheel, the brutal bladed ASG Agent from Skullgirls, and Jason Voorhees, the murderous revenant killer from Friday the 13th. Happy 40th Anniversary of Friday the 13th!
Background:
Jason:
In the year 1957, in the small town of Crystal Lake, New Jersey, there was a Summer Camp attended by an 11 year old boy named Jason Voorhees. Jason suffered from serious physical and mental deformities from Birth which caused the other campers to harass and torment him on a daily basis.
One day, two of the counselors that were supposed to be watching Jason decided to leave him by himself in order to go have sex. While alone, Jason got ganged up on by a bunch of bullies who chased him through the camp, and over the edge of the dock. Jason...wasn’t a very good swimmer, the bullies ditched out to not get busted and with no one around, Jason drowned in the lake.
Unable to accept the loss of her son, Jason’s mother, Pamela, grew desperate to find a way to bring him back, and eventually she found one when she got her hands on the Necronomicon, a demonic book of the dead, made of flesh and written in Blood. With this, Pamela recited a spell to resurrect Jason, which worked, but Pamela would never know it, as Jason, unwilling to go back into the world where he could be tormented again, journeyed into the woods to live as a hermit, not risking going to find her.
Thinking it a failure, on that night of Friday, June 13th 1979, Jason’s birthday, Pamela brutally killed the entire staff at the camp one by one in a delusional rampage. Eventually Pamela was stopped when a surviving counselor cut her head off with a machete in self defense, a dramatic event Jason happened to see from the trees.
Having lost his beloved mother, Jason decided to take his vengeance upon the world, murdering this surviving counselor and declaring Crystal Lake the sacred burial ground of his mother, the only person who had ever loved him, anyone who trespassed there was disrespecting his mother, and thus he would kill them without question.
Every time someone would come into his territory Jason would stop at nothing to kill them all, while he has been defeated and even killed a few times it was never enough to stop him permanently. This is because Jason is no longer a human, he is a revenant, an extremely powerful mentally conscious zombie. According to the Necronomicon’s curse, Jason becomes more powerful every time he returns from the dead. This is the actual explanation for why he seems to become stronger, tougher, harder to kill and with access to more powers with every sequel.
Over the decades, Jason has been through a Lot, having personally killed over 200 people, gone up against other supernatural entities and even leading a siege of deadites on Washington D.C. All while becoming one of the biggest legends in slasher films.
Jason is an absolute raging killing machine, fueled by his messed up childhood and the death of his mother. He’s developed a sort of numbness to both physical and mental pain, and is completely and absolutely Fearless, no matter what overwhelming things he's up against he will never show the slightest hint of fear, as he legit does not care anymore about what happens, he only wants to protect the land that's his from those that would disrespect it.
Painwheel:
Once upon a time, there was a kind young girl named Carol who had a picture perfect life. She lived in the opulent town of Maplecrest, had a nice family, and was best friends with Filia Medici, of the fabulously wealthy Medici family.
Presumably to Get at Filia’s Family, Carol was Taken by other members of the Medici mob and held in a stronghold with kidnapped refugees. When said Stronghold was raided, Carol was discovered by the Ninja Nurse Valentine who was working for the Off the Books Lab 0 of the Anti-Skullgirl Labs.
Valentine discovered that Carol was in possession of an extremely rare blood type they had been looking for for an important experiment. This Blood Type could resonate with the Blood of a Skullgirl, allowing them to inject Skullgirl Blood into her without her becoming a Skullgirl herself.
Knowing they couldn’t afford to pass up this opportunity, Valentine reluctantly kidnapped the Poor girl and took her back to Lab 0 to perform horrendous experiments on her, with the intention of making her into the perfect Anti-Skullgirl weapon.
They injected her with Skullgirl Blood, giving her access to several powers common to Skullgirls, and attached two powerful synthetic parasite weapons to her body, allowing her to Fight a Skullgirl Head to Head and win.
They then Mind Controlled her to obey their every order and destroy the Skullgirl, Giving her a new codename to match her new look, Painwheel. However when they let her out there was an unforeseen problem, Painwheel started resisting the mind control and going rogue, naturally pissed at the whole kidnapping and torture she was put through for six months. She swore to get revenge on those that did that to her, and get her normal life back.
While that didn't Quite work out, Painwheel eventually got adopted into the MUCH nicer Lab 8 with other agents like her, and while she still works as an ASG agent, she's adopted a more inconspicuous, civilian form look so she can continue to go to her school.
Painwheel's personality is quite different from what one would assume from her appearance. She is generally a very kind, and happy girl wanting nothing more than a normal life. Her favorite things are flowers, gardening, walks on the beach at sunset, family and friends, the sound of wind chimes, puppies, nostalgic memories, Magenta and Proper etiquette. She actually hates a lot of the things she is commonly associated with such as Lab 0, Her creators, torture, frustration, mind control and well, Pain. Though being constantly surrounded by these things has made her violent, unstable and fueled by rage in combat, she is still a sweet person when you get to know her. However, after the whole ordeal she went through, Painwheel is more hardened and cautious of people than she used to be.
Intellect & Skill:
Jason:
Height: 6’3 / 191 cm
Weight: 230 lbs / 104 Kg
Age: 62 (Physically 38)
In spite of his mental insanity and lack of formal education, Jason is actually pretty dang smart and tactical. Jason can read and write, construct small buildings and functioning traps, and sabotage his victims by cutting the phone lines, stealing cell phones, flattening car tires and even luring them away so he can destroy their whole weapon stock. Jason is also good at hiding in shadows and attacking in angles he is not expected to attack from. He is also skilled in using bait and decoys, and misdirecting his victim’s attention. Jason is capable of moving perfectly silently, able to maneuver through crowded houses undetected with the utmost ease. He is a skilled Tracker who can quickly hunt down and take out large numbers of targets in large crowded cities and secluded forests.
In actual combat, Jason is an amazing fighter with a great deal of experience fighting a Wide variety of different foes. He’s gone up against special ops soldiers, superhuman bounty hunters, other serial killers, zombies, deadites, demons, psychics, robots and even the powerful Incubus, Freddy Krueger, and has always been able to cause massive amounts of damage, if not kill everyone outright. Jason is an amazing long distance marksman, whether it be rifles, archery or even throwing blades. Speaking of throwing blades, Jason is impossibly good at it, he is able to flawlessly use not only knives in this manner but also larger much less balanced objects like Hatchets, Machetes, Axes and even hammers.
Painwheel:
Height: 5’1 / 155 cm
Weight: 375 lbs / 170 Kg
Age: 15
Painwheel is primarily an above average intelligent 15 year old girl, going to a prestigious school, being an expert Cellist, etc. Though her going through such an ordeal has left her hardened and cautious, her temper sometimes causes her to make rash decisions. When she locks in on a target, she has a pretty one track mind and because of this has been manipulated before.
Skill wise, Painy has gone through numerous drills of hand to hand combat training with the ninja nurse, Valentine, and has beaten her and other skilled fighters in serious fights. At one point, She even single handedly massacred a whole branch of the powerful Medici Mob at once. Painwheel is for all intents and purposes an “Aerial Dominance” style fighter. She controls the air with her Buer Drive, and can contort her body into inhuman shapes and unleash her rage with brutal moves. Her unique fighting style focuses on Brutality and Crippling harm over all else. Her attacks involve hitting from unexpected angles or unpredictable ways, restraining or trapping the target, and hovering over her head as she wildly tears you apart. Close range is where she is most dangerous, and has numerous signature skills and abilities that allow her to clear distance and stay in her foes face.
Powers:
Jason:
Jason’s Powers are spawned from the Necronomican, which resurrected him as an undead Revenant, leaving his blood thick and black. In accordance with his curse, every time Jason returns from the grave he is more demonic, becoming stronger and more powerful, with access to more and more powers. After dying over and over again, Jason current grabbag of powers includes:
Can Breathe Without Oxygen:
Jason is undead and therefore has no need to breathe, he can effortlessly survive underwater and even in the vacuum of space.
Hax Resistances:
Jason is also very resistant to Hax powers, being able to, many times, fight the Incubus, Freddy Krueger and hold his own, despite Freddy’s giant grab bag of deadly powers like transmutation, mind manipulation, mental body attacks, soul absorption and more. Some of which Jason has directly shown resistance too.
Regeneration:
Jason’s Healing ability is what he’s most famous for. While originally this was only enough to allow him to regenerate small parts of himself and mortal wounds, it has overtime, massively increased to a powerful regenerative factor. He can now near instantly regenerate from being shot through the torso and head by literally thousands of machine gun bullets, having car tire sized chunks of his torso blown off and heavy slashes and stabs with blades. Jason quickly regained most of his mass after over a decade of decay upon just waking up, got up after Tommy Jarvis decapitated him, and even survived being blown to pieces by an air strike. His most impressive showing comes from the Jason X comic, where after Jason got his head exploded, and the Nanobots infected his body creating Jason X, a leftover chunk of Jason’s Brain regrew an entire new Body for itself. This would be considered Low-High Regeneration, albeit with the requirement that at least some part of Jason’s Brian be left, as when Jason X defeated this new Jason, he ripped the brain chunk is spawned from out and inserted it into his own head, assimilating it, and that Jason didn’t regenerate as a result.
Electricity Absorption:
Lightning and Electricity is something Jason is able to absorb, it can, and has multiple times, resurrected him, and additionally both heals and strengthens him. Any boosts Jason receives from Lightning are permanent amps.
Super Senses:
Jason has good enough senses to generally know where everyone is at all times. One time he even killed a girl as she ran down the stairs in her home, by throwing an axe straight through her front door into her, despite there being No way he could have seen inside as he did that. He can sense people over a wide area based on their levels of adrenaline, in addition to tracking the scent of bodily fluids and hearing quiet breathing. The more afraid his victim is the easier he’ll find them.
Teleportation:
After coming back in Part VIII, Jason gained the ability of teleportation. Able to disappear and reappear in another location, allowing him to do stuff like chase people down the stairs only to appear at the bottom of stairs to kill them and even manage to literally be standing static in every single direction his victim turns. This ability has an effective range of several miles, and summons a small amount of fog as he does it.
Hallucinogenic Manifestations:
Jason’s presence can cause people to have horrific hallucinations related to his past, even if they have no knowledge of him. His Illusion powers have improved greatly over time as these can not only look or sound like anything, but manifest as physical entities to grab and trap victims. They also can actually do damage to and kill people, such as when he summoned an illusion of a zombie children army that dragged people underwater, their bodies were discovered by police to be covered in bite marks consistent with children of a wide age variety, effectively meaning Jason can kill people with his mind.
Fear Aura:
Jason’s presence produces an aura of fear that makes the entire town of Crystal Lake and those he's near terrified and often unwilling to stop him, to the point of making several people rave about the area’s Death Curse. He can activate this mid fight causing his opponent to become confused and have difficulty fighting back against him.
Possession:
Jason is now a disembodied consciousness, his body is just meat and destroying it is merely an inconvenience for him. He can hypnotize people into taking his essence into themselves, even while he's nothing more than a pile of severed pieces. From there he can transfer from person to person once he gets in close range to those he wants to switch to. People possessed by him, get access to his strength and regenerative powers. However people that he transfers out of...melt which is pretty horrific. The reason for it being a normal body can’t handle his power. Jason can also completely reform his body from that of any blood relative of his, including their dead remains.
The Strain:
The Jason Strain, is a highly contagious virus from Jason’s blood that turns people into bloodthirsty zombies. Those under its effects become super strong, super hard to kill and begin mass murdering all in their path. This turned an entire island into monsters.
Painwheel:
Having the cursed blood of a Skullgirl infused into her isn’t just for show, It has boosted Painwheel’s physical body, giving her massive strength and speed, plus several superhuman abilities common to Skullgirls. These include:
Energy Projection:
Painwheel is powered by Theonite energy, an extremely potent Divine energy source of the Goddesses, that enters this world through Skullgirls. By changing its wavelength however, the Labs can actually make Theonite that harms and kills Skullgirls and similar entities, using it to power Anti-Skullgirl weapons.
Painwheel is able to naturally project Theonite energy herself in moderate amounts, able to generate it from her hands or project it off her body.
Regeneration:
One of Painwheel's most trademark abilities is her rapid healing. This Healing factor allows Painwheel to Instantly heal from any injury, including hundreds of gaping slash wounds, all manner of broken bones, and complete impalement through any part of her body, including her brain and heart. This Regeneration happens so quickly that injuries do not even slow her down mid fight, and a slash wound will close up as the blade is still cutting across her. Regeneration is a Skullgirl ability that Painy’s blood allows her to copy, and Skullgirls are shown to be capable of regenerating from nothing but their heart. While Painwheel has never directly shown healing of that magnitude, she should be more than capable of regaining lost limbs and taking extremely fatal injuries.
Superhuman Balance/Flexibility:
In a true Silent Hill-esque manner, Painwheel can bend and contort her body in all sorts of creepy, humanly impossible ways, to allow more devastating and less predictable attacks. More than likely this is also possible thanks to her regeneration.
Resistances:
One of the most handy traits Painwheel inherited from Skullgirls is their wide array of Hax Resistances. Painwheel has multiple times resisted the powerful and diverse Mind Manipulation powers of Brain Drain. Other Skullgirls have also shown resistance to powers like Poison, Assimilation, and Soul Manipulation and Painwheel is heavily implied to have resistance to these as well.
Super Senses:
Painwheel has extremely keen super senses like an ultimate predator. Her sense of smell is impressive enough to track Valentine through the city of New Meridian. But even that is nothing to her ability to detect and sense a person's Aura. Aura Sensing is a Skullgirl ability that gives super awareness of those around you, you can recognize someone through any disguise, constantly know their location around you, and even tell who they’ve been around and what emotions they are feeling.
Hatred Install:
The Hatred Install is a superform Painwheel can access by releasing all her built up hate and anger. In this state, Painwheel becomes completely engulfed in Theonite energy, drastically increasing her strength, speed, stamina and brutality, as she is consumed by the dark power that fuels her. The form will wear off after a brief period, so as not to go on a rampage, but by then her foes are normally too dead to care.
Weapons & Equipment:
Jason:
Jason is proficient with Many, MANY different weapons, liking to use a large variety of different tools to keep each and every kill an original. However he does have a Favorite.
Jason’s primary weapon is an over two foot long single edged Machete, which he uses in what's probably poetic justice for his mother being killed with one. Jason has easily killed most people with this tool and carries this around nearly everywhere, even when using another weapon, he often has one of these sheathed on his person.
Apart from the Machete, Jason’s will often carry additional weapons with him, most commonly, several smaller knives, a hammer or an Axe.
Painwheel:
Painwheel has two Weapons she carries with her at all times, these being her Two Synthetic Parasites, The Gae-Bolga Matrix and the Buer Drive. Synthetic Parasites are Artificially Intelligent mechanical weapons created by the ASG labs, which attach to a host's body, and can be controlled much like a limb. Synthetic Parasites are fueled by Theonite Energy, but since Painwheel can generate that, these two don’t really run out of fuel.
Painwheel’s Gae-Bolga Matrix is identified as a skull on the back of her head and nails found on her scalp, shoulders and knees. It resides throughout Painwheel’s entire bloodstream, and can form into any shape imaginable, allowing Painwheel to produce enormous razor-sharp blades, spears, arrows, spikes and wire through any part of her body. Something that would kill anyone who didn’t have a potent healing factor.
The Buer Drive is a gigantic 250 lbs pinwheel of blades implanted into Painwheel’s back. This wheel is held up by a flexible appendage that acts like a 5th limb. Each of the four blades can move independently from each other, able to grab hold of things like a giant metal claw, or spin around really fast like a buzzsaw and shred whatever it hits to pieces. The blades can spin so fast that Painwheel can get a speed boost by riding on it like a wheel, or even straight up Fly by using it as a working helicopter blade. The Buer drive is also Detachable from the part inside her back, and conveniently fits inside her Cello case for easy travel in public.
Feats:
Jason:
Strength/Durability:
The energy from his soul releasing into hell created a thunderstorm.
Took down a helicopter by ripping off a large piece of playground equipment and throwing it through the windshield with enough force to kill the pilot and smash his seat.
Tanked a fiery Large Building level explosion like nothing.
He Tanked an enormous gasoline explosion which was so powerful it launched him far into the lake, created an earthquake, set the entire camp on fire, made a crater in the earth and had a Mushroom cloud. A Mushroom cloud suggests the explosion contained a potency of at least 10 Kilotons of TNT, since a weaker version of Jason in part 9 was only dismembered by a similar explosion, this isn't an outlier.
Further Backup can be found in the Freddy VS Jason VS Ash Comics, where Jason tanks numerous full force physical attacks from Freddy Krueger, and at this point in the story that guy is so powerful he can casually create and maintain storms large enough to massively eclipse entire mountains, and literally make it rain blood over the entire city of Washington DC. Comparing the mountain in this picture to the Kittatinny Mountains found in New Jersey, this cloud is dozens if times larger and would weigh over 20,000 tons, and moving it at such a rate would be upwards of 814 Kilotons of TNT equivalent.
Freddy Krueger resurrected all his victims at once, and even their combined might couldn’t hold Jason back.
Speed:
Outran bullets from a helicopter's minigun.
Caught up to a speeding truck.
At one point in the Novels, Jason, before he had gotten the ability of teleportation, killed two characters in rapid succession despite them being on opposite sides of the lake. Crystal Lake is circular in shape, and it is stated it takes a car a half hour to drive from one side of the lake to the other. The speed limit in Crystal Lake is 35 mph so the Circumference of this lake is 35 miles. Assuming Jason took the fastest possible route by swimming straight across it, this is a Mach 26 speed feat.
Can move so fast he's invisible to the human eye.
General:
Swam from New Jersey to NYC with no sign of exhaustion.
Killed a dozen highly trained soldiers at once.
Got a spaceship to collide with a space station completely destroying it.
Resisted being Sucked into the Deadite dimension, which Freddy couldn’t do.
The amount of trank required to put jason under for 15 minutes is stated to be enough to put a blue whale in a coma.
Painwheel:
Strength/Durability:
Defeated Valentine, who was canonically able to deal damage to the Skullgirl. Marie was able to lift Medici tower, by far the largest building in New Meridian, which is impressive as other buildings in that city have reached the clouds. This would easily put the building in the weight class of other enormous structures like The Capitol Dome in D.C. which weighs over 700 Million Kg. Marie then tossed it into the bay, considering that Medici tower is in the center of downtown, and the entire town of Little Innsmouth is between that and the coast, the distance should have been upwards of 5 miles at minimum. Clearing this distance before it hit the ground would require it to travel 4,000 m/s for a Kinetic energy of over 1.3 Megatons of TNT.
Scales to Marie who could physically lift a Skyscraper.
Can cause violent earthquakes that span across multiple city blocks with the shockwave of her blows.
Was able to immediately get up after thrashings from Filia, Big Band and Beowulf.
Speed:
Is fast enough to jump up and strike her opponent 5 times in midair before she begins to fall, which would require speeds of Mach 11.
Defeated Valentine, Who can Dodge bullets.
Can reasonably keep up with Peacock, who can outrun an explosive blast.
General:
Survived the horrendous procedure that turned her into a monster to begin with.
Overcame Brain Drain’s Mind control.
Can endure the Gae-Bolga Matrix stabbing and slashing her body apart every time she uses it.
Destroyed the Skull Heart.
Massacred an entire Medici stronghold single handedly.
Defeated Valentine and Double at once.
Weaknesses:
Jason:
Jason has an extremely one track mind, while he’s shown capable of being strategic, he isn’t very formally smart, he’s been manipulated multiple times and has a tendency to go into a fight as directly as possible, relying on his healing and endurance to carry him through anything that may go wrong when doing so. His range is somewhat limited, his only real option being his throwing weapons, and he’s hesitant to use that just because he prefers to kill in close.
Painwheel:
Painwheel is still fairly new at fighting and doesn’t have the raw skill of many of her peers at ASG. She relies mostly on the fact she is physically stronger than most of them and as a result she has been defeated by opponents more skilled than she is on several occasions. While she can heal from almost anything, she is still able to become exhausted. This is especially a problem when Anger is what causes her Blood to flare, should the fight go long enough to cause her to grow apathetic she’d be far easier to beat.
Summary:
Jason:

More than twice as fast.
Superior Regeneration.
Higher Stamina.
More Experience.
Wider Variety of Powers and Hax.
Higher Resistance.
Disadvantages:
Requires his Brain to Regenerate, should it be destroyed he will die.
Not as Strong or Durable.
His weapons are quite rudimentary in comparison.
Painwheel:
Advantages:
Somewhat physically Stronger.
More Durable.
Super Senses counter Stealth.
Deadlier Arsenal of weaponry.
Superior Range.
More reliable Super Form.
Disadvantages:
Slower than Jason.
Is susceptible to fatigue.
Less adaptable.
Battle:
Night fell upon the Misty woodland area of Crystal Lake, darkness beginning to mask the grizzly scene of a torn up campsite, now littered with corpses of those unlucky souls who dared to tread upon this land, those who ignored the warnings of the Death Curse. A radio lay upon the ground sparking as it continued its broadcast.
“Spark...as more and shhhhhh.. Bodies are pulled from zit area, Police krrkkkr forced to pull out from heavy casualties”
“Errrrr… Royal family has deployed ASG Troops to handle the thr” CRACK.
The radio fell silent as it was crushed by a large pale foot, now quiet, Painwheel listened to the noises of the woods as she smelt around the campsite. The Bodies had grown cold, but the scent trail was still fresh, she raised her hand to the communication device in her ear.
“Painwheel to ASG, I’ve found a fresh crime scene, and picked up a scent trail” she said as she looked upon the pain stricken face of a teenage girl, laid dead upon the ground. Her expression grew somber, and then angered. “I’m in pursuit of target…”
“Alright, but be careful Painwheel, we don’t know what's out there, and backup is far from where you at.” Big Band said as Painwheel ended her communication.
She continued following the trail several clicks to the right, the closer she got the more dark energy she could detect until she had reached a clearing between the treeline and a lake. The Full Moon brightly illuminated an abandoned campground, dark rotting cabins, a wooden rack full of haphazardly stacked canoes, an abandoned tractor…
Cheee-Che-Che….. Haa-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha…….
Painwheel turned and looked all around, the sound seeming to come from nowhere, when suddenly another corpse fell out from a tree and landed at her feet. When she turned forward, standing on the opposite side of the clearing appeared a large man in tattered clothing, he wore a cracked wooden hockey mask and in his right hand held a long, rusty machete, which Painwheel could smell was dripping with blood, both old and new.
Jason stood motionless as he looked at this strange girl, she was not like any he’d seen before, with her dark mask, strange clothing and the big wheel coming out of her back. But it mattered little to Jason, she had stepped foot on his sacred ground, his mom would be mad if he didn’t kill her.
Painwheel could feel a powerful dark aura emanating off the figure, whatever she was dealing with, she knew it wasn’t human. She stepped forward, “You’re the one who caused this, and I’m the one who's gonna Rip you to Shreds…”
Fight!
Painwheel’s wheel spun fast, allowing her to partially fly as she rocketed out from her position across the clearing, ready to pounce on Jason like a wild tiger. But before she reached him, Jason seemed to disappear in a cloud of fog, only to reappear on her right once she landed and Punch her in the side of the face with a stone hard jab that sent her flying into a tree at their side.
Jason thrust forward with his Machete, which Painwheel only narrowly dodged before it impaled its way through the entire tree trunk. “GRrrr” Painwheel growled as she threw a punch back, which Jason caught with his hand, managing to hold it back. Suddenly Barbed Blades shot out of Painwheel’s fist, stabbing and trapping Jason's hand, likewise two spikes emerged from the soles of her feet, anchoring her to the ground before she raised her Buer Drive above her head and spun the blades to bring down on her murderous foe.
Thinking quickly Jason pulled his Machete from the tree and raised it to block and combat Painwheel’s giant buzzsaw. Metal screeching against Metal echoed over the clearing sending sparks flying everywhere. Painwheel raised her arm up to Jason’s chest and five long blades extended from her fingers and stabbed Jason through the heart, and with a flick of the wrist she ripped it out of his chest and it fell to the grass.
With that, Painwheel yanked her foot from the ground and kicked him in the throat, impaling the spike through his neck, before finally bringing down her buzzsaw onto the large foe carving a massive gash across his torso and spraying a thick black fluid all over the place.
Painwheel recoiled in disgust as her foe fell motionless on the ground. “Ugh, Sick, what is this stuff?” she yelled as she wiped some of it off her face and gown. “Okay”, she said, turning around, “I’m gonna go back to Lab 8, and have a Nice, Looooong Bath..”, she started forward.
Che-che-che ha-ha-ha….
“What?” Painwheel said looking back. To her shock, she saw her foe sit up, a grotesque squishing sound echoed through the area as his wounds filled in, she gripped her head as a sudden chill of terror flooded into her out of nowhere.
“Rrrraaaarrrghh!” she cried out as Jason rose tall, lifting his machete, he hacked it forward in a downward arc. Painwheel raised her arm and blocked the blade with one of her shackles, but it still managed to crack the metal.
“Right..Like I’m gonna get scared of a freak like you!” Spikes protruded out from her forearm stabbing Jason numerous times. The revenant did not care at all as he kicked her into the tree and grabbed her by the throat. Painwheel contorted her neck and Bit Jason’s wrist, ripping a huge chunk of flesh off, before her huge wheel grabbed Jason around his torso like a giant metal claw and whipped him across the yard, through the wall of a cabin, into the darkness.
Painwheel rushed toward the Cabin in hot pursuit, but just as suddenly halted, she couldn’t sense his aura inside.
Jason watched her from the forest line, why had she stopped, had she spotted him? He teleported to the otherside of the clearing, behind the abandoned tractor, but when he looked he couldn’t see her anymore.
Jason stepped back when suddenly the Tractor was pulled away from him and to his shock, the girl stood there, having lifted the tractor Clear over her head. “There's No Place you can Hide from ME!” she yelled as she violently smashed the vehicle overtop the killer with so much force it crushed in on itself and the entire woods shook.
Painwheel walked around the tractor, wanting to find his remains to confirm the kill, but she couldn’t see anything yet...
“HRAAHH!” Painwheel suddenly called out as she was stabbed several times though the back with throwing knives. She turned around, but as she did Jason teleported behind her, grabbed the back of her head and smashed her face into the totaled tractor with so much force it broke to pieces.
She flew for several meters, when she landed though, Jason was there and he quickly Punched her in the gut. Painwheel’s blade spun down on Jason, but he was fast and managed to teleport behind her again and Stab through her torso with his Machete. “Arrgh! Get Away!” Painwheel yelled as she swung her head up and smashed it into his nose, causing him to drop his weapon and disappear again.
Jason appeared at her side this time and threw a kick at her gut, but she was Ready now and caught his leg, pulling him towards her to meet a giant elbow spike impaling him through the lung. As her Machete wound closed shut, 3 large spikes emerged from Painwheel’s knuckles and she gave him a hard punch to the face, Goring deeply into his skull. On the other side her Buer Drive spun rapidly and started sawing deeply into his shoulder. Jason reached behind him and pulled out an axe from underneath his jacket and swung it underhanded until it cleaved its way into Painwheel’s diaphragm. “It’s Nothing!” Painwheel screamed before Jason grabbed her by the collar and pulled her into a headbutt that launched her dozens of yards away, crashing into the canoe rack. Jason picked up his Machete and ran at Painwheel, dual wielding it with an Axe.
Painwheel got up as her injuries dissipated, her forearms expanded as she pointed her hands and Fired a spread of Metal arrows out of her fingers which shot nearly a dozen holes through Jason, but he kept on charging like a train, and brought his weapons down on her. They were blocked by the blades of Painwheel’s Buer Drive, which closed on and trapped them.
Two long, curved, barbed blades slid out from Painwheel’s forearms and positioned themselves into her hands forming swords. Painwheel stabbed both these blades right through Jason's upper chest and pulled them down as she raised her leg and smashed her foot into his head in a powerful push kick that launched him back into the campground, crashing into and destroying the outhouse.
Painwheel flew up, using her wheel as a helicopter, and dive-bombed Jason's position slashing downward with her twin swords. Jason was ready, as he blocked both blades with his machete, and slammed the back of his axe into her ribs, knocking her several feet to the side, into the dirt.
Painwheel got up just in time to see a machete fly through the air towards her, she deflected it with her swords and it stabbed into the ground right as Jason reached her. He knocked her blades downward with an Axe swing, but she slid her blades back up slicing deeply into Jason’s leg. He brushed it off before kneeing Painwheel in the chin, pushing her backwards while he ripped his machete from the ground.
Jason slashed at Painwheel’s head with his Axe and Machete, only for her to block with her own blades and bring down her wheel which rotated and stabbed Jason through with all four of its blades at once, slamming him into the ground.
She pulled her Buer Drive back rending the very flesh off Jason’s ribs like an Evil Rake. Black fluid splattered everywhere as his organs became exposed. Jason grabbed hold of the large blade and threw it over himself, yanking Painwheel off the ground and suplexing her onto the mud behind him.
Both of them got up, but Jason did first. He brought his Axe down and it cleaved into Painwheel’s head. “Ugh! Why YOU!” Engaged she chomped his Axe appart with her teeth, the blade fell away showing a very similar axe mark in her mask to the one to Jason’s own.
She kicked the monster in the groin with bladed toes, stabbing him deeply. Jason didn’t even flinch as he Grabbed the girl and smashed her into the earth with enough force to shatter stone and cause an earthquake in the area. Painwheel spat out dirt and struggled to get up, “Son of a Bi-”, Jason didn’t let her finish, he kicked her with so much force she skidded across not just the campsite, but the entire lake before slamming into a tree on the other side.
She caught her breath for a second but when she opened her eyes she witnessed Jason sprinting across the lakewater. He reached her in no time flat and delivered a powerful punch to her face that embedded her head into the tree behind her.
Suddenly Painwheel leaped up, her arms and legs wrapping around the Arm Jason held to her face and stabbing into it all over so he couldn’t shake her.
With her sword arms, she extended outwards, slashing on both sides of Jason’s neck like a pair of scissors and his head flew clean off.
Jason’s body fell to its knees and collapsed, Painwheel too, slid down the tree in a slump, she got up and walked to Jason. She stuck her bare foot onto his chest to feel for a heartbeat, to make sure he was dead this time, and felt nothing.
Thunderstruck loud, introducing a freak Storm that seemed to come from nowhere, and Painwheel suddenly grasped her head in agony as she felt a dark power trying to take hold of her. Around her, several horrific hands started shooting out of the ground. Dead bodies, hundreds of them emerging from shallow, unmarked graves.
Painwheel rose back up, and meekly started backing away, but they had her surrounded. They were letting out an ungodly moan as they grew closer and closer, wanting blood flesh and carnage. Painwheel suddenly stopped backing away.
“No….This isn’t Real...You’re Nothing!” She said as she looked up with a gaze so intense it could stop a bear’s heart. A wave of purple energy emanated out from her across the area, and all the undead faded away like the illusions they were. Painwheel gazed at Jason’s still unmoving body, but noticed something, the head was no longer on the ground.
Behind Painwheel, Jason suddenly teleported and in a swift motion, grabbed her and snapped her neck. This was an injury that proved unable to even slow her down, as her body fell to the ground, dozens of thick, barbed metal wires suddenly came out from every part of her and stabbed through Jason, coiling around him and lifting him into the air.
Painwheel’s head snapped back in place and she sparked back awake, gazing at her trapped foe, a new found rage hit her.
The Winds of the storm picked up as she rushed up to Jason, Punching him with such force, he flew upwards ripping out of his restraints, causing black blood to rain down from him. Painwheel flew up with her Buer Drive, hitting him again and again, higher and higher, into the air, Roaring at the top of her lungs the entire time.
She kicked him in the stomach, stabbed him in the throat, sliced her saw over his chest, making his guts spill out and finally, she hit him with an explosive punch that launched him into the clouds.
As Jason reached them, a powerful bolt of lightning shot down and struck him, launching him into the ground. Painwheel’s Wheel stopped turning, letting her drop towards Jason's position to slam into him, not giving him any time to heal now.
Right before she reached him, Jason shot up, revitalized, while she smashed into the empty ground. Jason grabbed his Machete and stabbed Painwheel through the sternum, electricity flowed from his body into her, shocking the crap out of her before punching her with a powerful blow that launched her off his blade.
Jason quickly teleported behind a large sycamore, and with one fluid blow, toppled the entire enormous tree over. It fell onto Painwheel crushing her underneath. An engine sound was heard as Painwheel sawed her way through the tree trunk and hopped out, but Jason was waiting for her. He grabbed her wheel by the arm and the back of Painwheel’s head and literally ripped the device out of her back.
“AHAHAGGG!” Painwheel Yelled in pain as she was thrown to the ground. Jason tossed the wheel to the side and jumped down at her, laying a series of overhead blows on her, again and again shaking the whole area.
“Grrrrrr, Go To HELL!!!!!!!!!” Painwheel Screamed as a Massive Wave of Purple energy Exploded off her form blasting Jason back across the meadow and illuminating the area.
Painwheel walked forward slowly, her body caked in a spooky purple-black aura, her eyes red with anger.
Painwheel Ran up to Jason at speeds he had trouble following and threw a punch. Jason threw a punch himself in a clash of fists that shook the Camp and illuminated the area in an electric blast.
A nail head formed on the back of Painwheel’s elbow, “Feel PAIN!” she called as the nail smashed inward, jackhammering a spike into Jason’s fist with such force his entire arm Exploded off his body in a splash of blood.
Jason swung at her with his Machete landing a direct slash on the side of her neck, but the blade only penetrated skin deep. Painwheel grabbed the blade with her hand and with a clench of her fist, Dented and cracked it.
“Screw you” she stated as blades of wire exploded off her form, launching Jason backwards as he was impaled dozens of times and strung up among the trees.
One wire reached far back and wrapped around her Buer Drive, pulling it back and reattaching it to her, it started spinning as fast as possible.
“You’re just some evil, angry killing machine...Monsters Like You make Monsters Like Me Look Bad!” Painwheel yelled in defiance as she blasted forward, blade spinning too fast to see, she rammed into Jason, cutting him in half from groin to neck, with his head ripping off, stuck stabbed through on her wheel blade. She landed on the ground with a loud stomp and stood tall, pulling the head from the Wheel.
Painwheel gazed at the head in her hand, its eyes still looking around, she could feel it trying to call to her mind, trying to take control.
“Oh Please, Like I’m Ever Gonna let You, or Anyone else, control me ever again”, she said as she grabbed the head between her hands and poured an enormous amount of Theonite energy into it. Jason’s head ignited into a burning purple flame, being incinerated from the inside out until it eventually crumbled away into white ash.
Painwheel walked away as she calmly raised her hand to her com device.
“This is Agent Painwheel, pant Mission... Accomplished”
“You alright Carol?” Big Band asked with concern.
“Yeah….” she said, tired, but reassuringly.
“...I’ve Felt Worse.”

….Well that was brutal.
This battle was an extremely well made match, both combatants having fairly similar stats, Painwheel being a bit stronger, and Jason being a bit faster, but both to not that significant a degree. They both had fairly comparable secondary stats on top of that, Painwheel taking Range and Intelligence, and Jason taking Stamina and Skill, though none to that high a degree. So the fight seems fairly even in that regard.
At first glance, one might think Jason would be far more likely to win given his more diverse arsenal that included several haxy abilities like Infection, Possession, and Mental Manipulation. BUT none of those were going to work on Painwheel, thanks to the resistances granted to her by her Skullgirl Blood. With this Blood she was able to fight off the advanced mind dominance and illusion powers of Brain Drain, and she should also scale to Marie whose blood was unable to be assimilated by Eliza. As Eliza’s blood infection and Brain Drain’s Mental Abilities both have more impressive showings than Jason’s versions of those powers, they really would just not work.
Jason also cannot use his typical killer strategies, thanks to Painwheel’s super senses. She will always know where he is and therefore his stealth is thrown out the window, and his teleportation is significantly less effective as a means for scoring hits and escaping.
And looking at their superforms, while Lightning Amped Jason is a permanent Amp, it is ultimately far worse than the Hatred Install, due to the fact that he can only use it in certain instances, like being struck by lightning, as opposed to Painwheel who can get just as powerful for a short time, literally whenever she wants.
But let's look into the Real comparison of this fight, Regeneration, both these two are unkillable regenerating beasts so it’s most important to look at who would have an easier time putting the other down.
Comparing their healing factors head to head on paper, Jason’s is clearly more impressive, being able to regrow his entire body from just a chunk of his brain. Even highballing Painwheel’s own regeneration to that of a Skullgirl, still wouldn’t be as good, but this is where Painwheel’s parasites come into play.
The Gae-Bolga Matrix is made of a metal that can stab through characters comparable to Painwheel, meaning its more durable than Painwheel is. Since the GBM is branched out across Painy’s entire bloodstream, it effectively acts like an internal armor that prevents any part of her body from being severed, much like Wolverine.
This brings me into a huge point in Painwheel’s favor, Weaponry. Painwheel’s weapons are HILARIOUSLY better than Jason’s, he’s packing a bunch of farming and utility tools he found around a campground, while she has advanced semi-sentient super weapons that can take a wide array of forms. Painwheel could cause horrific injuries to Jason from multiple angles. All while restraining him to the ground, flying out of his range or bombarding him from a distance with metal arrows. None of which Jason has a concrete way to deal with, and getting carved to pieces repeatedly only to regenerate back is not exactly a winning strategy, especially when it seems he needs his brain to grow back from.
Lastly Painwheel uses Theonite energy, it’s the source of her powers, what she shoots from her hands, what gets her to her Hatred Install state and even what powers her Parasites. ASG Theonite energy is made to kill and disrupt the essence of undead and demonic entities, like Skullgirls. Since Jason is an undead demonic entity, this would more than likely be extremely effective at harming him.
Looks like Jason had quite the unlucky spin of the wheel.
The winner is Painwheel...who you should all wish a Happy Birthday to.
That was quite the Halloween surprise! I know Skullgirls alright and only know Friday the 13th from what you have shown so it was interesting seeing these two very scary entities brutally rip each other apart. I'm surprised you consider this a mini prediction as it felt very substantial and easily could have been a regular blog.
ReplyDeleteThe fight had an extreme brutality to it that I don't think I could ever replicate. It's hard enough for me to just be able to write melee choreography let alone one that is so vicious. The two characters both have quite brutal fighting styles unlike the more esoteric fighting styles I'm used too.
I felt very bad for both characters here. Neither deserved what they got, even though one was obviously the hero here, or should I say heroine :P I thought Jason had a really cool set of powers and feats, cooler then even his adversary because it had more of an ethereal otherworldy nature to it but I felt that Painwheel definitely had a more elegant style to her both in her story and in her presentation, possibly as her weaponry is much more advanced and sleek.
If I can give a bit of constructive critism. Sometimes you state that a character has an ability or resistance to an ability without experessing the scale and seem to expect we will automatically scale it to relevant in the fight. I was deliberating for a long while on whether Jason's mind hax would work solely because I didn't know how it compared to Brain Drain's.
On the other hand, you as always are able to imbue your descriptions of both characters with an incredible sense of life that I certainly don't think I match. I thought their feats and powers were presented to give a clear sense not just I guess of the mechanics of their abilities but of their general usage which can be very important when it comes to standard tactics. I got a strong sense of how Jason uses his teleportation in combination with stealth for instance or how Painwheel used her weapons as an aerial fighter.
The fight felt quite extensive and cinetmatic. I thought you did a good job of both expressing the fight's fairness while also giving a clear indication of who was winning and would win based on the number of hits one side gave vs the other and how extensive those hits were. I thought your analysis was also quite smart, especially with analyzing the finer points of how the two characters arsenals give them a different level of abilities in this fight, and how one side's versatility is not particularly helpful while their opponent has a surprisingly large amount.
Great Job Thor and Happy Birthday Painwheel.
Happy Birthday Carol! Man, you totally tricked me with this treat, was expecting a different fight. But October is exactly the sort of time for stuff like that! And thanks to your past blogs, I felt like I had a better handle on the characters than I usually do when I try to figure out who would win (and I was right!). This battle has such wonderful potential for gore, dismemberment and overall brutal violence thanks to the excellent regeneration powers of both combatants. I'm happy to say you delivered on all fronts bro, well done!
ReplyDeleteI don't have too much to say about the pre-fight analysis sections on these two as I already knew the characters, but I did want to call out and praise the visuals and audio for that part of the blog. I'm glad I read it in the dark; between the badass and creepy images you chose of these two walking massacres and the excellent music, I felt immersed in one of my favorite genres, horror. I can't finish talking about this section without mentioning how much Jason's speed feat across the lake and the megaton feat Painwheel scales to impress me and as for powers, Jason's illusions affecting the physical world and Painwheel's two special weapons are all so cool!
The fight was everything I wanted and more. The setup was right out of a horror flick, though I suppose you don't really need a terribly good reason for these two to fight :P The metal score was a rocking good time, and kept up the tempo in my blood as the violence escalated. And escalated it did! You know, normally when someone gets their head chopped off, that's when the fight ends. But that was just for the halftime show! Speaking of that little interlude, I loved the way you described the horrific illusion Jason tried to torment Carol with. Though it didn't bug her at all. Felt like Painwheel was the monster for a lot of this fight, not fearing Jason and even escaping his sight occasionally to get the jump on him. The hunter becoming the hunted always makes for good entertainment. Some other favorite parts of mine were the bits with the tractor, Jason's getting punched into the sky, the Buer Drive "raking" the meat off the front of his torso, and the massive number of blades and wires from Painwheel causing a rain of black blood when she strung her opponent up.
I figured Painwheel would win, so you won't get any arguments from me about your concluding arguments. Pretty much all the ways Jason messes with his victims before the kill are useless against her, and her weaponry/gear far outmatches his. It'd be child's play to reduce Jason to bareknuckling it while Painwheel never runs out of killing options. This is just speculation on my part, but I think Painwheel going for a headshot is likely happen to before Jason goes for an attack to the heart. Looks like Carol's the winner of this monster mash, thanks for slaking my thirst for gore! For tonight, anyway ;)
Phew, you had me worried for a bit there, I thought Painwheel was gonna lose. Pretty thankful she didn't as she's definitely my preferred character here. Nice touch that you did this on the anniversary of Friday the 13th as well as Painwheel's birthday.
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me to write my own Halloween themed blog!
This was surprise! But what a freakin' awesome idea for a matchup, and one that is absolutely perfect for you to write since I know how much you love Skullgirls and Friday the 13th. I always have to give you props for coming up with matchups like this; this is a really thematic yet fair fight with such brutal yet tragic figures, but they are also from such distinctly different kinds of franchises that I wouldn't have thought about pitting the characters against each other.
ReplyDeleteHaving both your previous blogs in mind, it was interesting seeing how you remade and summarized your analyses of both characters (I like that, it works well for a versus fight, while at the same time not invalidating the original blogs). You really laid out both of their abilities and feats clearly, and it was cool to see gifs and pictures from movies, games, and comics in Jason's case.
The fight was super great. It seems like it would be somewhat hard to write Jason given that he was outgunned by Carol's weaponry and his usual tactics wouldn't work on Painwheel (stealth, hallucinations, mind control, etc.). But you did a great job making Jason an intimidating threat throughout despite Painwheel's advantages; you really did seem to do both characters justice and paid tribute to both of them. It was kinda surprising to see how much faster Jason was than Carol. I really liked the ending; Carol stating at the end that she won't let anyone control her ever again felt like a fitting and cathartic way to end it.
The post fight analysis definitely seemed accurate. Painwheel definitely had the better weaponry and the theonite seems like a pretty good way to deal with Jason. Add on top of that Painwheel's resistances and it seems like a solidly argued victory.
Also, happy birthday Carol. Sorry you had to fight a murderous, demonic zombie on your special day, but I hope you had a good day anyways :P
