Yup, this is a thing we’re doing. One of my friends suggested that
I should do a VS Strat Guide on the Collective Cartoon Network. Now Obviously
I’m not quite THAT Crazy, but I am crazy enough to agree to eventually do one
for Every Official Cartoon Network Show, and today we are diving headfirst into
the Weakest of the Original Cartoon Cartoons, Mike, Lu & Og. Hope you enjoy
learning how to be OP in it.
Town Tier:
Here we have the first and only tier in the series, where every
character falls into. Characters in this tier are casually Town Level, due to
scaling to Og’s multiple feats of tanking point blank mushroom cloud explosions
large enough to eclipse the islands volcano in size, as well as Massively
Hypersonic from Mike being able to not only dodge, but straight up outrun a
bolt of lightning from the sky.
This series takes place entirely on the Island of Albonquitine, a
Carribean (I think) Island-Nation owned by a small group of people, descendant
from British people that shipwrecked here 6 generations ago, also Mike, an
orphaned New Yorker girl who somehow is here on a foreign exchange program.
This island is somehow full of animals from every continent on Earth, as well
as giant insects, a bunch of super intelligent talking animals and undiscovered
species and plants, so pretty much any ability in the animal kingdom is present
and a threat here. And that’s not to say the characters themselves don’t have
good abilities. Mike is an extremely athletic and acrobatic girl, who has
anti-logia and awareness of the 4th wall, The Pirate Captain has super senses
enough to smell things from great distances away, which is precise enough to
walk around and detect everything normally despite having 2 eyepatches, and
Alfred has multiple times regenerated from being flattened like a pancake. On
top of that all the characters have really good stamina, once all being able to
stay awake partying for 8 straight days.
There are 2 characters in this verse that stand out as especially
serious threats, those being Og and Queeks. Og of which is a total supergenius,
I’m talking he once made a spotlight that collides matter and antimatter,
producing a light so strong “if you pointed it at the dark side of the moon,
there would be no more dark side.” Og’s genius is so efficient he once built a
massive damn, nuclear power plant, several other power plants, a huge amount of
windmills and covered the entire island in lights all in a short timeframe, and
that’s in addition to the time he made an army of killer robots in a short time
frame BY ACCIDENT. He can genetically alter plants, make night vision goggles,
manipulate creatures' intelligence, and created a device that swaps the minds of
those who look at it with a chicken.
Queeks is also really smart, but rather than science he uses
witchcraft. Queeks’ power allows him to control the weather enough to summon
giant thunderstorms in an instant or cause a volcanic eruption. He also
additionally has several useful powers like teleportation, precognition,
hypnosis, cursing people to suffer extreme bad luck, and even summoning a group
of ghosts who possess invisibility and intangibility.
So what are some effective strategies against this verse? Well
there are a few things to note, first off let's talk about Intelligence, While
this tier has numerous really intelligent characters, basically all of them are
naive, partly due to being isolated from the rest of the world so long, making
them fairly easy to manipulate, a decent manipulator build would be really good
for making grounds here. Past that there are a few specific weaknesses, one of
which being that the island is extremely healthy, no one had gotten sick in 3
centuries and this had left them so vulnerable to biological attacks that
Mike’s cold practically caused a plague. Characters in this tier are not particularly
skilled in combat nor are they good at hitting from any notable range without
aid from Tech or Magic. And finally while they are easily the most dangerous
characters, Og and Queeks are not without their faults, Og’s being that he
doesn’t carry much tech with him, meaning he needs a small window of prep to
build stuff, while Queeks’ spell require him to perform specific hand motions
and incantations, which naturally warn a foe something is coming.
So what characters would be good here?
Swarm:
Well I for one think Swarm from Marvel Comics would be pretty dang
tough here. Swarm Scaled to the likes of Spider-Man in stats, granting him the
same Town Level, Massively Hypersonic stats as the characters here. Swarm is a
logia being made up of an entire swarm of bees, as such he is able to fly out
of the effective range of almost anything they can do, as well as allow
basically any attack to pass through him harmlessly via logia. Swarm has
incredible regeneration, able to come back so long as one bee remains, so even
with Queeks’ probability Manipulation it is extremely unlikely that he’d be
able to kill all the bees just by law of averages. Additionally because insects
on the island are also giant there wouldn’t be a comparable force of foes to
fight him, but it’s actually worse than that, as Swarm can control insects, so
not only would he be attacking everything with his own bees, but having an army
of giant Kaiju insects backing him up.
Not that he really needs it though as his own Bees are incredibly
poisonous, enough to threaten comparable metahumans in Marvel, and things like
poison and disease are especially effective in this verse.
That being said he wouldn’t be perfect, if Swarm didn’t defeat
Queeks before he summoned a ghost army there would be little he could do
against them. Also if he doesn’t stop Og quickly it’s possible he could create
some sort of anti Bee weapon. While Swarm should be clever enough to pull this
off, for someone who can be more direct,
Spinal:
Spinal from Killer Instinct would be extremely powerful in this
tier, scaling to the Town-City level MHS feats of early Tusk, he would be on
par if not slightly higher with the characters here. As an undead zombie
pirate, Spinal is extremely difficult to put down physically, likely able to
just tank anything the verse throws at him relatively fine with his super
survivability. Spinal has many of the powers that make Queeks powerful like
teleportation, lightning manipulation and summoning spirits to fight for him.
Queeks’ ghosts were unable to be stopped by any of the characters so Spinal
being able to do the same thing is really good here, plus teleportation means
he could quickly move around the island and take out all the characters rapidly
to stop long term strategies. Spinal has a significant edge in both range and
skill so a direct fight against Spinal would not be well advised for any of
them, especially since his sword can hit on the physical AND astral plane,
which would effectively let him one shot all the characters and even the
ghosts. Spinal is basically the perfect pirate to ransack this place. That
being said Spinal is pretty crazy, it's possible he could be outwitted here, to
go even spookier.
Haunter:
You could always use Haunter from the Pokemon series. Haunter is a
2nd stage Ghost Type Pokemon, and as such should scale to large town/low city
level feats of weaker 2nd stage pokemon like Piplup or Slowpoke, as well as be
MHS from dodging electrical attacks. Haunter as a ghost is naturally an
intangible entity similar to the Albonquitine spirits, which is already a bad
sign for the characters here as that means only those spirits could actually
hurt him. Haunter would also be able to take out the other ghosts via soul
manipulation naturally. Haunter has numerous other ghostly abilities, like
using invisibility to stealth his way across the island and possess someone,
like Og or Queeks and use their abilities as his own. He can also teleport, fly
and attack using already established broken things like poison, essentially
making him a defensive pick with a lot of good attack options. It is possible
he would be defeated if the ghosts are summoned and gang up on him immediately,
unlikely as it may be, a good idea would be to stop the likes of Queeks and Og
from using their powers. For that...
Tarrlok:
Tarrlok from the Avatar series. Tarrlok as a master level
waterbender and member of a police task force should scale to the feats of base
form Aang who with his own earth bending was able to carve out a giant canyon
in the kiloton range, create a tsunami and rearrange clouds, as well as his
numerous feats of dodging and timing lightning from the sky, putting him on
similar stat standing. Tarrlok is a total master martial artist and super
clever manipulator which would really put the other characters at a
disadvantage against him already but throwing in that this show takes place on
an Island surrounded by water and yeah he would be able to use his abilities
totally uninhibited for ranged attacks and drownings. But best of all is
Tarrlok is a master of Psychic Bloodbending, which lets him bloodbend people
with his mind even if it's not a full moon. With their bodies under his
control, they pretty much cannot use any of their abilities and it would be
over. That being said thanks to their regeneration it may take him a bit to
win, but i Do have one final counter.
Pie:
Pie from the Tokyo Mew Mew series would be monstrously Op here,
making him a clear choice for my ultimate counter. Pie is powerful enough to battle
town busting characters like the Mew Mews, as well as blitz Tart who could fly
into orbit at speeds exceeding Mach 2000, so he would have similar stats with a
slight speed edge. In fact coupling that speed edge with how he is an
incredibly skilled fighter and he could likely battle numerous characters in
this tier at once without any difficulty already, but let’s get into what he
can do.
Pie is a supergenius, comparable to Og actually, only much more
manipulative and strategic on top of it. Pie also has numerous abilities that
make Queeks so dangerous such as teleportation, and summoning lightning
effectively making him similar to a fusion to the two strongest characters in
this tier, but we are still just getting started.
Pie has spiritual hax, able to steal the life forces of beings for
himself, this would be an instant one shot hax against anyone in the tier
Including the ghosts. And even if that doesn’t do it, Pie’s dimensional
manipulation would just allow him to BFR people to another plane of existence
where they have no chance of escape, as well as allow him to just attack the
verse while he's IN another dimension and not putting himself at risk, as he
has the PERFECT ability to use here, the ability to create Chimera Anima.
Pie can unleash spores that infect any animal and mutate them into
being monstrous kaiju under his command called Chimera Anima and as this place
has not only every freaking animal known to man, ….but also ones with super
stats and intelligence, these would almost certainly be the most Powerful and
Varied Chimera Anima ever seen. All Pie would need to do is show up and use
what was once an advantage MONSTROUSLY against it by turning the whole island
into Chimera Anima and leave as it destroys itself. And just to add insult to injury,
Chimera Anima have a habit for producing extremely deadly poisons and illnesses
so ummmm, yeah Pie basically insta-wins like a boss.
I absolutely love these strategy guides Thor! They are so interesting and thought provoking in terms of strategy.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know anything about the verse going in, it sounds like quite the interesting premise! But wow it's surprising how strong the supposed weakest of the cartoon cartoons is! While it may not have the craziest cosmic stats and haxes, mhs town level is still well more then enough to solo the real world especially given the haxes they possess with things that are personal favorites of mine like enhanced senses and teleportation.
I think you did a really good job with the counters here, partly due to the subject matter verse and partly just due to your ability. I think it's definitely hitting the sweet spot of being versatile enough in terms of abilities to be interesting to think about but not so much so that it feels like you are super limited in options and have to go to select verses or abuse what weaknesses you find completely to win.
Of course my favorite counter has got to be Pie. For someone coming from such a fluffy verse (until near the end) his plans to kill most of the world population were quite brutal in concept, fitting his cold persona, and befitting his strength here as a manipulator, a disciplined warrior, and a scientist who can use the verse's own biodiversity against it just as he did against the TMM Earthlings. I completely forgot about the Chimera's poisons but yeah introducing that to an isolated environment is just asking for an ecological catastrophe. You probably should have asked TierZoo to collab with you on this one ;)
I really liked your choices on this one in general. I felt they all again hit the sweet spot of being just strong enough to truly be op and demonstrably so without feeling excessive and like you're picking characters that would be hax in any verse. I have limited knowledge on Swarm, Haunter and Tarrlok but could quickly see a bit of what would make them so dangerous, but you did a really good job of going further and fully showcasing their tactical possibilities.
Great Blog, I eagerly await the next one! :)
I know you are the cartoon guy, but I really didn't expect a strategy guide on Mike, Lu & Og of all things. Its cool to see this forgotten series referenced and analyzed though. The counters seem like top notch picks, really covering all your bases with everything from clever manipulators to ghosts/undead. I found it a good idea to counter probability manipulation with a character made up of numerous smaller beings that can regenerate with Swarm. Characters like Haunter and Spinal seem like really effective countermeasures against the ghost army in particular. Tarrlok seems like a perfect pick whose powerful waterbending (and bloodbending) would be devastating to an island nation alongside him being a pretty clever villain. And I really like the idea of Pie just unleashing chimera anima spores and letting the island's fauna do his work for him.
ReplyDeleteSo all around some good varied choices that really take advantage of the weaknesses of the verse. Look forward to seeing strategy guides on other Cartoon Network series.
Wow, you did a guide on THIS series? That's awesome! It's one of the few CN shows that I had never heard of before I started chatting you up about cartoons. Now I get to learn all about it. Weakest, eh? Town level's a pretty darn solid baseline, so this just tells me the CN guides you plan on writing are gonna get pretty crazy.
ReplyDeleteOg seems really cool, I was very impressed by his engineering skills. Queeks' magic seems pretty OP against normal people too. The counters were what impressed me the most here though. It's really cool how you managed to find such a wide variety of characters that fit into the (relatively) low powerful level of Mike, Lu & Og while still feeling really OP. Those bees alone would probably get the job done! I loved the thematic connection of using a pirate character against an island like this one. Always cool to see Pokemon, Haunter is a very nice pick here! There's a ton of nasty tricks up its non-existent sleeves. The ghosts might be able to get it, but with so many options I feel like Haunter would go for a very sneaky victory, which is a refreshing way to be OP instead of stomping over everything with God Mode on. Tarrlok seems almost creepier than Haunter! I imagine he could infiltrate their island society and gain a trusted position, only to cull everyone in a horrific night of blood-bending.
But all of that pales in comparison to what I'm calling the Pie-pocalypse. Fusing the two best characters in this series is already OP, since from what I'm understanding they're meant to counterbalance each other. Then you add stuff like draining their life force and dimensional hax. This dude already has the verse under his thumb. But then you unleash the Chimeras while he sits back and relaxes outside this dimension? So not fair! Which is awesome. I definitely agree he's your strongest pick, he is so OP here.
Looking forward to the next one of these. I wonder which CN show is just above MLO? Great job on the blog, thanks for making it!
