Aquamarine is a villain from
the recently concluded Steven Universe series, and is the most powerful villain
in the series to not be redeemed in the end. Aquamarine is a powerful member of
the Aquamarine breed of the Alien Gem Empire. Within the Gem Empire she is a
high ranking member of Blue Diamond’s court, someone that the Diamonds
personally send on their most important missions to ensure that it gets done.
Aquamarine has a very take charge attitude, taking great pride in her work and
in her own professionalism, when given an assignment she can be ruthless in
trying to get it done, and being a millennials old military specialist, she is
very clever and not easily fooled. Aquamarine is strong enough to be comparable
to most lower tier gems, like Amethyst who could defeat a monster able to make
enormous snow storms with its presence, and she's tough enough to endure a blow
from near EOS Steven, which should put her DC/Dura at City Level+. Aquamarine
would also have MHS speeds scaling off Garnets lightning timing, with MFTL
reactions in the billions at least from being able to beat Stevens reactions,
and he could perceive his mental form traveling between Galaxies.
Aquamarine, as a Gem, has all
the natural base abilities of the Gem species, to go over what those are, Gems
are a race of sentient rocks and minerals, who project bodies made of light out
from said gemstone. Because of this Gems do not need to Eat, Drink, Sleep or
Breathe, they do not age and never feel exhaustion. A Gem can regenerate their
body from any injury so long as their actual gemstone is still intact, they can
also freely manipulate their physical form, shapeshifting their body and
automatically adjusting their mass to be unhindered by changes in gravity. The
actual Gemstone is able to generate light to see in the dark, and store items
in a large pocket dimension contained in the stone itself. All Gems have the ability
to create Bubbles around objects which they can then use to teleport said
object back to their home. Additionally Gems can fuse with other Gems to take
on a more powerful hybrid state, although this power would be outside help.
As a high ranking member of
Blue Diamonds court, Aquamarine is also a gifted user of the prestigious
Hydrokinesis ability. Aquamarine, in her Bluebird fusion, was able to control
and attack with large amounts of water as well as forge it into powerful
weapons such as water swords for melee use, given that the person she fused
with has fire abilities, these water abilities clearly come from her, and are
useable in her normal state. Aquamarine’s most common use of Hydrokinesis is to
create water wings on her back, which not only can somehow create lift and
allow her to fly, but also work in space, which makes no scientific sense, but
who cares, she can Fly with Water.
Aquamarine’s primary weapon is
her Wand, a non-stowable Gem weapon which she wears on her head as a ribbon
when not in use. Aquamarine’s wand is an extremely powerful device that lets
her casually fight beings far exceeding her normal stats due to its primary
function, Stasis. Yes this wand can extend a blue beam from its tip that
surrounds anyone or anything it hits and prevents them from moving. It’s like
freezing those it hits in time, but they are still conscious of what's
happening. This stasis beam is fast and powerful enough to both hit and stop
Alexandrite, a 4 gem fusion who scales past the Multi-Continent level, MFTL
feats of Lapis Lazuli. The beam can also move like Darksied’s Omega beams to
target and stasis a whole squad of foes at once, as well as move the captured
target around weightlessly, like casually flinging them into space.
This wand is the primary reason
Aquamarine was such a threat to the hero’s, to the point when she was
eventually stripped of it, she ceased being much of a danger. Should Aquamarine
be disarmed in combat it could be devastating to her. Additionally Aquamarine
is rather arrogant, and shares the same weakness as all the gems, that being if
her Gemstone is shattered she dies.

So
how would she do in other verses?
In
the Marvel Universe, Aquamarine would do interestingly, She is stronger than
the vast majority of the street level characters like Spider-Man and Luke Cage,
and although they have comparable speed her reaction time would give her a
definitive edge against them in combat and even let her take on beings
exceeding her in power like Iron Man. Her Stasis beam is not a common place
power in the lower marvel tiers and would be effective on even Symbiotes like
Venom and Carnage, who are normally some of the hardest characters to take on
in this tier. That being said she would not be able to beat a large number of
Street levelers at once, she would have to play her cards right to avoid a
coordinated strike. One character I think she would have a rather interesting
fight against is Iceman, as both have somewhat similar powers and numerous
counters to each other.
To
look at another series being visited by a hostile alien race, Aquamarine would
be a difficult foe in the Tokyo Mew Mew series, easily having comparable if not
slightly higher stats to the Mew Mews and general Aliens of the series, but
again her reaction speed would be able to give her a distinct edge over most of
the characters, and would likely need the whole squad of Mew Mews to
successfully take on. Ironically despite being the weakest two in general
scenarios, I believe Lettuce and Pudding would be the most effective against
Aquamarine. Lettuce due to having Hydrokinesis comparable to Aquamarines own
and could likely disrupt her flight, and Pudding who can not only replicate
Stasis attacks, but also has Geokinesis which if she figures out Aquamarines nature
could immediately oneshot her.
These
series are compared all the time so why not here? In the Star VS FOE series
Aquamarine would obviously solo cause Star destroyed all magic :P. Lol sorry,
in all seriousness Aquamarine would Do interestingly in this verse as her Speed
is somewhat slower than the high tier mages yet her reactions are WAY higher so
she should be able to compete. Aquamarine’s Stasis in particular would be a
pretty broken ability as its essentially a more combat effective version of
Rhomlous’s power, which alone could stop beings like Eclipsa indefinitely, yes
there's a LOT of things that could oneshot Aquamarine in this verse, but since
most of them require incantations and movements to perform the Stasis would do
a pretty good job protecting her. That said around mid season 3 characters
started getting more passive and direct powers which would stop her. I would
consider Aquamarine a Season 2 level Star Villain, likely between Mina
Loveberry and Meteoria in terms of who beats whom.
O.K.
K.O.: Let’s Be Hero’s is somewhat of a companion piece to Steven Universe, the
shows came out around the same time, the art styles are somewhat similar and
the creators of the series are a couple so let's see how Aquamarine would do.
In the OK KO verse, Aquamarine would be considered a Level 2 Villain,
comparable to BoS Rad. Against the Level 2 and lower heroes and Villains
Aquamarine would be a massive threat having superior reaction speed enough to
avoid all sorts of attacks and while her Stasis and Regen powers are nothing
new to the series, she still has Power variety comparable to low tier wizards
like Wally the White, essentially making her the 2nd most powerful level 2
character, as she would still be below Dynamite Watkins who could simply bring
her wand to life or BFR her with Absolute spatial manipulation.
Lastly
Steven Universe draws a LOT from Magical Girl series, like Magic Knight
Rayearth and Cardcaptor Sakura but the one I think it draws from most is Madoka
Magica. In the Magi verse, Aquamarine would fit REALLY well against most
Magical girls and similarly powerful witches, having the same stats for the
most part and the fact that the magical girls have the exact same regen that
Steven Universe Gems do thanks to their Soul Gems. It is possible that
Aquamarine would be a big threat against them, as her Stasis abilities are
somewhat able to replicate the Time Stopping abilities of Homura, which are
considered pretty OP in the verse already, also the clever Aquamarine would be
UNIQUELY suited to figuring out that their soul gems are their weak point given
how extremely common that is to characters in her own series. That being said
The Magical Girls in particular would likely be Really good at leading an all
out attack against her with their telepathy and ability to summon a large
number of weapons to attack her from all sides.
Aquamarine seems like a cool character and her weapon seems really strong given her tier. I was surprised by how many mg series you compared too, but I think you did a good job comparing her relative place within them. I was surprised Lettuce and Pudding would do best against her from TMM given the Mew Mews relative strength. I was impressed with you doing PMMM analysis given your relative lack of experience with the verse but it's kinda funny how it influenced SU which you seem to really like.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. I think the choices in verses seem really fitting. Interesting to see how successful Aquamarine would be in all these verses just with the wand. It's a perfect tool to use against people of a similar tier and its kinda surprising how few of these have something to counteract it. I think my favorite descriptions here are the ones where you compare against the magical girl verses, just seeing how she would do against Steven Universe's original inspirations. Madoka Magica (which I'm actually familiar with) seems to have a pretty accurate description of what would happen if she was dropped in that verse, especially with that bit about the time stop and soul gems.
