Hi everybody, well lo and behold, I’m back to Skullgirls for yet another blog on one of their fantastic characters. If anyone is surprised by this than you obviously don’t know me very well. This time however, I’m not doing one of the original characters. You see Skullgirls originally had only 8 characters, as the creators had to cut out the majority of characters they wanted for the bare essentials due to lack of funding. But thanks to the support of their loyal fanbase..
The roster in Skullgirls has nearly doubled in the lovely expansion, Skullgirls: Encore. Now prepare your butts as in the spirit of Halloween, I focus on what is the absolute most adorable zombie in fiction, the one, the only, Squigly!
Background
Sienna Contiello, although better known by her nickname Squigly, was the daughter of Selene and Roberto of the Contiello family, a wealthy and famous lineage of astounding opera singers. The legendary performances of this family's members were beloved and praised by everyone through the generations. Even the brutal and vicious Medici Mafia were loyal fans and friends of the Contiello’s. That is until the monster Double decided to royally screw them over.
On the birthday celebration of Sienna’s mother, Selene, Double infiltrated the party in the form of a wealthy guest and gave her The Skull Heart as a present. Then Double gave an anonymous tip to the Medici Mob that the Contiello’s possessed the Heart.
Now seeing as how The Skull Heart happens to be the only weapon capable of defeating the Medici’s Life Gem, the mobs leader, Lorenzo decided it was best not to take chances.
In an act that ignored all the trust and goodwill the families had built through the generations, Lorenzo ordered his top assassin Black Dahlia to exterminate the Contiello’s.
Near the end of the party, Dahlia arrived with her forces and began mercilessly mowing down everyone with machinegun fire.
After killing nearly everyone, Dahlia taunted poor Sienna before blowing a lemon sized hole through the side of her head execution style.
Enraged and desperate from the death of her daughter and family, Selene wished on the Skull Heart to resurrect those she cared for.
The problem being, by using that particular wish on an evil artifact that corrupts wishes and raises zombie armies… you may have made it’s job way too easy. It was in that moment, Selene Contiello became the next Skullgirl.
Everyone who had died in the massacre so far rose as a mindless zombies and began fighting with Selene against Dahlia’s forces.
During the battle, Sienna’s father, Roberto, used his dying breaths to send his parasite and longtime family friend, Leviathan to save and protect his daughter, telling him to “stop anyone who gets close, even me.”
With that, Leviathan board himself through Sienna’s bullet wound and Squigly was born. You see while The Skull Heart is still the energy source that keeps Squigly alive, Leviathan is able to repress its influence.
Rather than becoming a mindless zombie like the others the Skull Heart resurrects, Squigly can maintain her memories, personality and emotions. After briefly coming to terms with her situation Squigly and Leviathan decided it was up to them to stop her mother, who had become twisted and corrupted by The Skull Heart, bent on conquering the world for revenge.
Along with ASG Agents and Superheros of the city, Squigly battled her way through the Skullgirls Zombie Hordes and destroyed her mother to save New Meridian. And with the Skull Heart destroyed, Squigly''s source of power depleted until she collapsed dead a second time.
With Squigly the sole corps remaining intact, Lorenzo hosted a large public funeral for her, sewing her corps’ mouth shut to symbolize that he had battled a Skullgirl and came out unscathved, while the Contiello’s were silenced. After that day Squigly remained dead, and Leviathan remained dormant for 14 years, when a new Skullgirl rose.
Marie Korbel became the new Skullgirl and rose the dead of New Meridin, however unbenounced to her she had also brought back Squigly. Upon their little comeback performance, Squigly and Leviathan found themselves on the run from the military, who were mistaking her for a member of the Skullgirls mindless zombie army. Guess they never learned to recognize proper posture.
As they battled against the fuzz, Squigly began to realize that her powers were growing steadily stronger. Upon this Leviathan shamefully admits he can not completely block the Skull Hearts influence and her power will increase with that of the Skullgirls as she loses herself to the heart.
Upon more inspection Squigly realized her mouth had been sewn shut and she had been speaking through echoes generated by Leviathan the whole time. Quickly deducing the Medici Mafia was responsible for this, the two decided it was time for some good old fashioned payback.
However, they were soon sidetracked when they met Filia and her parasite, Samson who planned to wish on the Skull Heart themselves.
Knowing from past experience that that is literally the stupidest thing you can do, Squigly and Leviathan instead went after Filia, determined not to let another innocent soul fall to the Skull Heart. Squigly battled and defeated the Skullgirl intending to destroy the Heart before anyone could use it.
Before she could do this however, she was ambushed by Double, but was saved at the last minute by Filia, who wished to team up with Squigly to stop Double.
Double revealed to Squigly that Filia is the granddaughter of the very man who ordered her family massacred. Touchingly though, Squigly judges on the actions of the individual and not their family background. After the two kick Double’s ass, Double tells Squigly everything about how she set up her family to be killed.
Squigly then responds by… Burning her alive, wow that is Hardcore. Knowing Filia learned the truth about the Heart, Squigly destroyed it.
Without the Heart powering her body Squigly quickly weakened and died again. Leviathan waits by her side until she comes back at the rise of the next Skullgirl.
The two lie in a grave, marked by a stone reading “Here Lie, Sienna “Squigly” Contiello & Leviathan, May they Rest In Peace, Until We Meet Again.”
Personality
Squigly is an incredibly kind, polite and well mannered individual who does not let her sad experiences prevent her from being sweet and proper. Squigly’s unique perspective makes her one of the smartest and most level headed characters in the game. She is quick to adapt to new situations and makes good judgment calls. She understands that The Skull Heart is incapable of bringing happiness, refused to allow Double to manipulate her, and even figured out Lorenzo Medici had grown weak with very limited evidence. Her bubbly and understanding personality helps her in her self proclaimed duty to prevent as many people from falling to the Skull Heart as possible.
Squigly values her family and tradition, and enjoys reading up on current events, animals (particularly birds and snakes), music, singing, noodles, cream soda, cake, burgers, gardening, the smell of incense, bubble baths, and not being dead. She does not like rude people, dishonesty, thunderstorms, being dead and “Not taking Karaoke seriously.”
Intelligence
As stated in the personality section, Old Squiggles is one of the most levelheaded and intelligent characters in the game. Her knowledge of The Skull Heart is rivaled by few and she is incredibly difficult to manipulate because of it. She is also very calculative, possessing decent detective skills and knows her limits, when outmatched she will make a strategic retreat only to return with a better plan of attack.
Leviathan
Now I’m sure you’ve all been wondering, “What’s the deal with that weird snake thing on her head?” Well let's find out shall we! Leviathan is a 11’10 Dragon Parasite. A Parasite in Skullgirls are beings that form a bond with their host and provide augmentations. Unlike Peacock and Painwheel who have artificial, mechanical Parasites, Leviathan is a living parasite and thus can think and act independently.
Leviathan is an honorable, well mannered gentlemen, complete with posh british accent. He was a beloved family friend of the Contiello’s and was previously hosted by Squigly's father. Leviathan is well over 3000 years old, predating even The Skull Heart itself, making him and incredibly experienced and professional combatant, he serves as a guide, mentor and best friend for Squigly and is fiercely loyal to her, allowing the two to work extremely proficiently together in combat.
In combat Leviathan utilizes his sharp teeth, pointed tail and powerful fire breath. His body is divided into 20 segments and is somewhat stretchable.
Leviathan can use this to change his shape and size into a variety of other dragon like forms to suit the current situation in combat. In addition to breathing fire, he can also blast it from his tail and even the spaces between his segments.
The Fire strangely enough, can also take on the shape of and be used as melee weapons such as Axes.

Powers
Leviathan in conjunction with Squigly has granted the pair several unique powers.
These powers include:
Pyrokinesis:
As one may expect from a scary dragon monster, Leviathan is capable of producing extremely hot streams of fire out of virtually any part of his body. In combination the duo of Squigly and Leviathan will use this to enhance their attacks. In addition to the burning Leviathan’s seemingly magical fires can take the shape of melee weapons and posses explosive properties.
Spatial Manipulation:
With the move appropriately named ‘Center Stage’, Squigly can manipulate space itself to alter the spatial distance between herself and her opponent. Generally Squigly only uses this to effectively turn all of her close range attacks into long range. However Spatial Manipulation is a form of reality warping which allows its user to bypass conventional durability by creating additional space between objects, effectively meaning with this power Squigly can cut anything in half regardless of how durable it is. While Squigly has never used this, likely due to not wanting to kill anyone, she totally can if she wanted to.
Geokinesis:
Squigly has the ability to telekinetically control the rocks and dirt around her. She uses this to bury her opponents alive, as well and tunnel herself underground and travel around the field, using Leviathan as a periscope as he takes the form of a surprisingly adorable tombstone.
Superhuman Survivability:
Squigly is a zombie, through and through, and as such basically any type of physical trauma short of reducing her to dust is simply incapable of killing her. Heck she already has a bullet wound in her head, her left eye is missing, her left arm is nothing more than bones and she has a giant hole in her torso. Any stab or slash or even amputation won't even slow her down, the power of The Skull Heart will continue to animate any part of her body including individual bones.
Sound Manipulation:
Squigly can use her beautiful soprano singing voice in order to create deadly explosive balls of concentrated vibrations SO Potent, they detonate not once, not twice but five separate times!
Sound Traversion:
Her sound powers don’t stop there, Squigly can also convert her physical form into sound waves. In this state she can easily move 765 mph and gains intangibility.
Soul Manipulation:
One of Squigly’s moves Ignites the souls of her enemies.

Squigly is a professionally trained Opera Singer, Dancer and Martial Artist, and her and Leviathan get to utilize all three of these in their unique fighting style, ‘Dellamore Dellamorte’. With this fighting style these two move in perfect synchronization with each other to attack, defend and throw their foe off guard with the utmost precision.
Squigly’s moves combine devastating martial arts attacks with flashy surprise hits, many of her moves can also be charged to hit with a crippling amount of force. This makes their fighting look more like an elegant dance number than a brawl.

- Piercing Gaze
Leviathan stabs with his tail in a surprise attack from Squigly’s eye.
- Liver Mortis
Squigly punches with Leviathan breathing a fiery explosion on her fist.
- Bune Knuckle
Squigly And Leviathan release a deadly one-two combo of punches.
- Death Drop
The most elegant kick you ever did see.
- Madame Dragonfly
An arile-divebomb attack rocketing forward a flaming spear point.
- Draugen Punch
A flaming powerful twirling uppercut that launches foes sky high, although for some reason it appears oddly familiar.
- Arpeggio
Leviathan rapidly stabs the foe 12 times per second.
- The Silver Chord
Squigly throws Leviathan’s tail like a Kuni Spear and drags her foes forward while they are stunned, sometimes while yelling Get Over Here!
- Tremolo
Leviathan burrows his tail for a stealthy underground stab attack.
- Daisy Pusher
Squigly Buries her foe under ground before launching them upwards into a falling coffin she dropped.
- Inferno of Leviathan
Leviathan unleashes his true form and blasts a boulder sized fireball that somehow tracks its intended target like a heat seeking missile, this has to be the most powerful attack right??? Wrong!
- Shun Goku Saltsu
The Shun Goku Saltsu is the most powerful move in Squigly’s arsenal, upon building up enough energy Squigly can levitate towards her opponent and cause their very soul to burst into flames, condemning her foe’s body to eternally spew fire.
Feats
- Defeated her Skullgirl Mother singlehandedly while only barely getting used to her powers.
- Fell the height of a skyscraper without injury.
- Defeated Parasoul, Filia and Cerebella each of which defeated Valentine who is fast enough to dodge point blank machine gun fire.
- Escaped both The Black Egrets and Eliza.
- Can move at the speed of sound.
- Defeated The Skullgirl who is a threat to every character in the game, can throw a skyscraper at hypersonic speed, and endured town level attacks from Black Dahlia who can threaten Peacock and Eliza.
- Killed Double, Thereby avenging her family.
- Incinerated Doubles body to ash in 10 seconds, even lowballing to assume Double’s body is primarily made of human flesh it takes a crematorium roughly 2.25 hours to do this at 1,600 degrees, by comparison this would make Leviathan’s fire nearly 2.2 million degrees.
