Top Ten Cartoon Themes!

Hello people, after watching the intros of every single cartoon I know of from the early 1930's to present day across Warners, Viacom, Disney and more I have Finally compiled My personal Top Ten Favorite Cartoon Theme Songs! Note that this is in My opinion and by god was it difficult, if a theme you like isn't on here that you think is really great, it probably IS really great its just 10 is a cruelly small number. Also a shows theme doesn't necessarily speak of its quality, I should know as only one of my top 3 favorite cartoons actually made the cut. but first some Honorable Mentions.

Honorable Mentions:
  • Danny Phantom
  • The Angry Beavers
  • The X's
  • Atomic Betty
  • Duck Dodgers

Now to the List

10. Beetlejuice:

Based on the 80's Tim Burton movie of the same name, this Wacky horror cartoon had one of the most wacky and interesting themes of its time. The instruments create a truly haunting mood but not an unwelcoming one as it shows you strange and oddly fascinating things creating a sense of wonder.

9. Darkwing Duck:

Confession time, Most of the 90's Disney cartoon themes don't do it for me, the Huge exception to that is Darkling Duck. This creates a mysterious and jazzy piece that complements the visuals perfectly and not only keeps up with but adds to the energy. The vocals and lyrics are really great too creating a sense of actual hype for this even though Darkling isn't anywhere near as cool and suave as the theme suggests its fitting cause he thinks he is for sure. This theme is dang catchy too, can never here it without rocking out the When theres trouble you call D.W.

8. Welcome To The Wayne:

Fresh new from Nickelodeon, This is the best song I have ever heard for a mystery show, and there are definitely other great ones like Gravity Falls and Wayside. This song creates the wondrous atmosphere the show is going for beautifully with its happy tone and wondrous visuals, not to mention the lyrics creating the feeling that anything is possible. It really does make you feel like you're gonna go on a goodie-esk adventure and what better show to do it in.

7. Freakazoid:

I LOVE this song so much, Easily the most wacky and spontaneous entry on this list this song takes you through the brink of lunacy and makes it so fun and charming you'd let it take you on a fancy dinner date. It really does capture the feel of a wacky insane superhero to a capitol T partly with its Randomness and a lot with that magic only famed cartoon composer Richard Stone can do.

6. Camp Lazlo:

Ah, Camp Lazlo, I only have fond memories with this series, the 2nd show by famed cartoonist Joe Murray has an intro taking the exact opposite direction of that of his first cartoon Rocko's Modern Life. While Rocko's was very lazy intentionally disjointed, Lazlo uses a faster suped up version of Pop Goes the Weasel to actually display Lazlo as more wacky but still being conformed to a existing song melody. which makes sense because while Lazlo is a Wackier character than Rocko, his world is clearly not as wacky, he's what makes it such.

5. Johnny Bravo:

This Song is catchy and perfect, Johnny Bravo is an interesting character to delve into, he's very Elvis like in behavior, he constantly tries to pick up girls and does so terribly but we still really like him cause he seems to do this out of child like innocence rather than being a jerk. This Theme captures ALL of that, the music in both melody and sound is a combination of rock and doo-wop that Elvis is known for. Johnny is coming off as a showoff the entire song but the overall tone is still really inviting and silly.

4. Animaniacs:

How surprising, my 2nd favorite show made it ;), another classic by Richard Stone, this crazy well written and great sounding piece has me laughing, moving loving it every second. It also manages to explain the show quite well in a short time which is unheard of in a variety show. For a very long period of time I was trying to learn this song on my Piano because its simply that good, almost like ragtime. Another funny note is that this theme is actually slightly different every episode due to them constantly changing the penultimate verse.

3. Kim Possible:

SO...CATCHY, Kim Possible's theme is an Earworm for sure, sticking with people even to this day being recognized as the best Disney Theme song and its hard to blame them for that. The techno mix vibe it goes for is perfect for the show about the butt kicking secret agent cheer leader and even similar shows like Totally Spies couldn't capture the sheer awesomeness of that quite like this theme.

2. Phineas & Ferb:

Never said KP was MY favorite Disney theme :P, Phineas & Ferb's theme is sung by my irl favorite band, Bowling for Soup and OMG does it rock. Easily the most high energy theme on this list AND its rock and roll based to boot should give it the top 3 right there. The wacky lyrics and fun visuals and the way it clearly relays you what the show is gonna be about and how its gonna go about it carry it over the top!

1. Tiny Toon Adventures:

Yup, Richard Stone is kicking some butt today, TTA will always have a special spot in my heart for the first theme i learned by heart. This Song was legitimately recorded on Warner Bro's orchestra, the very same one they used for the actual Looney Tunes cartoons and that is fantastic given the theme it so masterfully tells us this show is about, the characters are learning to become great cartoon stars from the Looney Tunes. The song is very wacky, imaginative, meta and hilarious to a degree unmatched by any on this list, and unlike Animaniacs, I actually CAN play this one on a piano...

Thanks so much for reading, also if you love any themes not on this list, Please let me know, I LOVE discussing cartoons so much.

Death Battle Analysis: Vilgax

The Conqueror of races, Destroyer of worlds, Guardian of the Chimera Sui Generis, Seeker of the Omnitrix, AND my personal favorite villain in fiction, The Legendary Vilgax. This giant cthulhu-looking badass with an epic voice is one of the most intimidating and serious villains in all of Cartoon Network and now to explore how he got that title in the best way possible, see what he’s capable of in VS.
Background
Approximately 400 earth years ago, on the planet of Murray, the native squid like species known as Chimera Sui Generis bore a being that would one day be known as their savior, his name was Vilgax.
Filled with ambition, Vilgax joined the Chimeraian Military in his youth, infact he was so ambitious that he was exiled from his planet for “Ambitious Disobedience” and stationed in a remote section of the galaxy. One day, in the Earth year 1773, while on his normal patrol, Vilgax received a mysterious distress signal from an underdeveloped planet called Earth. Vilgax witnessed many strange things that day, a time traveling robot, a laser gun wielding George Washington, but most importantly he fought an alien that could change its species at will.
On that day, Vilgax learned just what dangerous secrets the universe could hold, and on that day he knew that whatever that power was, it must be commanded by him and him alone. Vilgax then quit the military and decided to explore the galaxy learning about and accumulating all the power he could, over 200 Earth years later he had acquired numerous skills, a vast robot army, an unstoppable warship and a reputation as the most dangerous being in the Milky Way.
In spite of all of this, Vilgax had yet to achieve his true prize, the key to his plan, the Omnitrix. The Omnitrix is the very device that would allow Vilgax the form changing power he sought, though the shaky facts and convoluted mechanics behind it left its existence nothing more than a rumor to near everyone in the stars, Vilgax was an exception.

After years of pursuing this device, Vilgax eventually cornered the Omnitrix as it was being transported by The Plumbers, the galactic police force. Vilgax had them trapped, the Plumber transport was completely outclassed by Vilgax’s warship.
Despite overwhelming odds, the Plumber wouldn’t go down without a fight and managed to deal a devastating blast to the main bridge of Vilgax’s ship before being destroyed themselves. From the Wreckage of the Plumbers ship a special pod containing the device was launched down to the nearest planet...Earth.
On Earth the Omnitrix would be discovered by future legendary hero and arch nemesis to Vilgax, Ben Tennyson. Vilgax had another setback, that blast to the main bridge left him a little banged up.
Oh...Did I say ‘Banged Up’? I meant a vegetable, complete loss of function in all of his limbs and serious internal and external damage to his torso. But even this wasn’t enough to stop his drive. After a season of failures sending robots and bounty hunters to get the Omnitrix, Vilgax was back on his feet and ready to handle this personally.
Vilgax had used advanced technology to repair his body, transforming him into an over 15 ft tall cyborg. With his new body, Vilgax’s power increased drastically, making him far more powerful than any alien Ben had at the time. All Juiced up, Vilgax went to Earth to make Ben all Jacked up and pry the Omnitrix off his wrist.
Ben was absolutely no match for Vilgax in both strategy and power and was quickly captured. Vilgax would have claimed victory that day had Ben’s grandfather not brought in a Plumer weapon specifically designed to kill him.
Despite Vilgax’s new body being able to resist it to some degree, this edge allowed the hero’s to stop him as Vilgax was trapped aboard his self destructing ship and froze in space.
But thats far from the worst thing that happened to Vilgax, after a second attempt he ended up trapped inside the Null Void, an endless prison dimension the Plumbers send the most dangerous beings they capture. This would normally be the end for most villains, But Vilgax managed to escape in only two months with only minor instability and major rage.
Having gathered his forces he finally cornered Ben Tennyson as well as Azmuth, the creator of the Omnitrix, on the planet Xenon, demanding he create even more powerful devices for him.
It looked like Vilgax had finally won, until Ben achieved a new alien form called Way Big, his first alien that can actually defeat Vilgax, and then proceeded to take down his entire army and chuck Vilgax into space like a baseball.
....homerun
It would be nearly five years before Ben and Vilgax would cross paths again, and ol’ Vilg-y had been busy in that time. First off his body had healed and he had removed the cybernetic enhancements, however the bulky enhancements had caused his limbs to grow in to fit them leaving him the same massive size and with far more muscle mass than his original form. Secondly, Vilgax had finally returned to his home planet Murray….And Conquered it,
though despite what you’d expect Vilgax loves his people more than anything, and they him as they do not know the full extent of what he does. He conquered his planet to protect his people from the threat to all life known as the Highbreed, and he did such a great job keeping his people safe from them that he was crowned as their permanent leader and the planet was renamed Vilgaxia in his honor.
Vilgax disbanded his people's military in favor of his robot forces, he was his people's champion, thus they had no need for other warriors like him. Keeping his people safe means removing all threats to them, and since he believes his people and planet are perfect, the greatest threats are coming from outside. So Vilgax began conquering other planets, taking away their power and increasing the might of his own. The scary thing is how efficiently, and legally, he did this.
According to the Galactic Code of Conduct, one can issue a Conqueror's Challenge where to avoid an interplanetary war, the most powerful being of the attacking side can challenge the most powerful being living on the planet under siege to a one on one battle to the death to determine the outcome. This allowed Vilgax to single handedly conquer ten planets, and to top that off he then syphoned off the power of all ten of those planets greatest heros after they fell, adding it to his own. With the power of the greatest heros of ten worlds surging within him, Vilgax was returned to Earth to Destroy Ben Tennyson once and for all and take the Omnitrix. Vilgax wants the Omnitrix to use in tandem with his bioids, organic robots with blank DNA, nothing in the entire universe could ever stand against an entire army of Omnitrix wielders, his power would be unchallenged and his people forever safe.
Despite his ambition, he has never and will never get the Omnitrix from Ben but that hasn’t stopped him from coming insanely close and accomplishing astounding things. Such as the time he found and attacked the planet, Primus, the place the Omnitrix draws its power from, or when he succeeded in getting the Omnitrix and Ben was forced to cause it to self destruct to prevent him from conquering everything.
In probably his most notable story, after sustaining severe injuries in his true form from a fusion reactor, Vilgax still managed to turn that around by manipulating a cult called The Flame Keeper's Circle into believing he was the intergalactic savior they worshiped called "Diagon". And then despite his injuries he managed to oneshot Sir George, The most Powerful Forever Knight that ever lived and used his power to return to full strength again.
Vilgax then entered the dimension of the Actual Diagon, who turned out to be an evil reality warping god that was going to destroy the entire universe. Knowing he couldn’t stop this foe Vilgax instead joined him as his herald and helped him fight against the heros. But in actuality Vilgax just outsmarted him and ended up killing Diagon and absorbing his full power to become a god himself.
In this godly state he attacked Ben wanting to rid himself of this bane as his first act, however using an ancient legendary superweapon Asmuth had created long before the Omnitrix, Ben managed to revert Vilgax to normal and absorb the power himself.
But it wasn’t over there, Ben had all the power in the universe there and Vilgax tempted Ben into fulfilling his goal. Vilgax told Ben that he claims to be a hero and asks him what he will do with this power? He says that if Ben was a real hero he would use this power to create a utopia, to wipe away evil with a thought. Ben would have done it too, but was convinced not too by his friends, the most important thing that sets Ben apart from Vilgax is Ben’s trust in others to do the right thing, believing choice and free will is always worth the risks, and that’s why Vilgax could never win.
Unlike most cartoon villains, Vilgax was never actually dealt a final defeat in the Ben 10 series, rather remaining a constant presence in the series that doesn’t get resolved as there isn’t always an easy answer to problems. Vilgax is the rightful ruler of several planets including his own and despite having respect for Ben, still remains a continental menace.
“Power is meaningless if it isn’t used.. ..and the only thing standing between me and my destiny...is you”
-- Vilgax
Personality
Vilgax is described by the series creator as coming off as “Like Darth Vader, only without the sense of humor”, yeah. He is incredibly cold, calculating and pragmatic rarely ever showing his true goals or any amount of kindness. Despite coming off as honorable he will still hold grudges and resort to practically anything to achieve his goals. This includes stealing, manipulating the law, killing people and destroying civilizations, inhabited planets and even entire alternate timelines. Vilgax also possesses a great deal of pride and arrogance believing he and the rest of his race are simply superior. Despite this pride however, Vilgax will break it if his own people are threatened, such as when the villain Zs'Skayr invaded his homeworld and took control of the majority of its inhabitants, in response he immediately went to Ben Tennyson and begged for his help to save them. Vilgax may come off as a generic power hungry warlord, but everything he does is for his people, he destroys so they don’t have to and would gladly trade his life for theirs. A major example of this is seen when Ben and the Plumbers finally captured Vilgax and were transporting him to prison, seeing the opportunity, the Incursion empire attempted to attack Vilgaxia and sent bounty hunters to assassinate Vilgax in order to dishearten his people. At one point in the fight Ben is about to be killed by a powerful laser blast and Vilgax saved him by throwing himself in front of it, Vilgax did this because he knew that if the bounty hunters achieved their mission in killing him, Ben would still save his people. Shortly after Vilgax escaped and the Incursions were stopped.
Intelligence
Vilgax is for all intents and purposes, a total supergenius in more ways than one, with technology, battle strategy, manipulation and experience. He possesses vast knowledge of other cultures, combat tactics, and the thousands of codes of the Omnitrix, the most advanced piece of machinery in the 3-Dimensional universe. He’s been in combat for well over 250 years and certainly knows what he is doing by this point. His senses are keen and and impressive, such as when he was quickly able to spot Six Six in a wreckage near Incarsacon, despite the image being zoomed out enough to display the entire planet. With his deceptive manipulation skills he has tricked the The Flame Keeper’s Circle into serving him, the time traveling warmonger Eon into doing things that would get him killed, and the extra dimensional god Diagon into giving him all his power. But arguably most impressive is the time he was able to make it past the planetary defenses of Galvin Prime, the home planet of the easily most intelligent species in the galaxy.
Powers
So to get this out of the way, there are four main forms of Vilgax, not counting temporary fusions with other beings such as Diagon and Malware. There is his Original Base Form which is the state he had at the start of the series which is all natural and normal for his species. There is his Enhanced Form when he had to rebuild himself as a cyborg. His New Base Form after the enhancements became obsolete and he absorbed the powers of 10 champions. And Lastly his True Form, a giant kraken like creature he can transform himself into when in water.
Original Base:
Vilgax’s first and weakest form isn't much in the way of powers, though he does have a couple.
  • Breathe Underwater:
Vilgax’s species is naturally aquatic and can breathe underwater indefinitely.
  • Healing factor:
Vilgax is able to regenerate from injuries such as lost limbs, unfortunately this process is much too slow to be usable in combat, we’re talking months.
Enhanced:
The enhanced form is a significant upgrade over the last one being triple the size and enormously stronger and more durable, it retains both benefits of the previous form as well as adding many of its own.
  • Boost steroids:
Implants in his arms which he can use to artificially increase his own muscle mass, temporarily giving him a massive increase in lifting and striking strength.
  • Can Breath in Outer Space:
Vilgax can now survive without oxygen in a vacuum for an indefinite amount of time.
  • Powerful claws:
Vilgax’s fingers are now claws which are so sharp they as capable of causing physical pain to high tier characters such as Way Big.
  • Matter Manipulation Resistance:
In this new body Vilgax is resilient enough to shrug off hits from a giant Plumber Weapon specifically coded to destroy his personal DNA. While it proved effective against his base form, it no longer was damning here.
Furthermore he has multiple times endured DNA waves from the omnitrix, these have a tendency to mutate whatever they come in contact with, merging it with DNA of random species from the watch, but it never affected Vilgax.
  • Anti-Logia:
Vilgax is able to affect touch and pumble beings even when made of non solid material like the liquid blob Gluto.
Later this form was Upgraded by Dr. Animo to have numerous additional abilities including.
  • Electric Shocker (can charge his attacks and turn a whole floor electric)
  • Tentacle Whip
  • Exploding Spike ball projectiles that damaged Four Arms
  • Knows over 10,000 different fighting styles
  • Flight
  • Produces energy ball attacks
  • Lasers that can match Heatblast’s fire
However he lost access to these upgrades.
New Base:
After removing his Implants and stealing the powers of 10 heros, Vilgax’s new base form is his most powerful yet in all stats and without any of the disadvantages being a cyborg might bring. This form retains many of the previous abilities such as slow regen, breathing in space, claws, and resisting logia and matter manipulation, and it in addition adds a lot more.
  • Optical beams:
He can shoot lasers from his eyes which in a very similar manner to Darkseid’s Omega Beams, change direction to pursue their target wherever they go, these can casually cut down trees, blow up house sized boulders and even shatter Gwen’s energy shields and are fast enough to catch up to Helen, a member of XLR8’s species.
  • Super Breath:
Powerful gust of wind which is enough to blow Alan, a member of Heatblast’s species, out like a birthday candle and knock out Kevin Levin.
  • Flight:
Vilgax is able to fly through outer space at high speeds.
  • Super Senses:
Vilgax can recognize individual beings from orbit and hear sounds from miles away.
  • Energy Blasts:
Vilgax can fire beams of energy from his hands.
  • Paradox Resistance:
Was unaffected by his own timeline being erased.
True:
The Natural form of his species, Vilgax can transform into this kraken like creature willingly from any of his previous forms when he come in contact with a lot of water, this form will always be more powerful than whatever form he was previously because it rises in strength with him and is merely him unrestrained.
  • Elasticity:
His Tentacles can stretch vast distances.
Weaponry
  • Ruby Ray of Ulo:
A gemstone on his right glove that fires lasers powerful enough to instantly vaporize anyone it hits, this beam has only been withstood by foes with Large island level durability such as Ultimos.
  • Shield of Ziegel:
A Gantlet he wears on his right arm that can project both energy shields and all encompassing force fields from the crystal on the forearm. These are both durable enough to tank hits from large island busting characters, Jetray’s lasers, Ghostfreak’s energy blasts and repeated fire from advanced alien battleships.
It is also able to coat Vilgax in an energy field that allows him to produce powerful electric shocks on contact as well as making him able to physically grab and hit foes even if they are Intangible!
  • Sword of Vilgaxia:
His bread and butter, a powerful, 8-foot long, double edged sword which is able to adapt to what it is facing. It is able to shoot powerful lasers, ignite itself in flame and even coat itself in diamond like crystals which deflect away lasers and absorb and store energy.
This sword is so powerful that it shattered one of the most durable aliens Ben has, Chromastone, to bits in just a single hit.
  • Raygun:
A single pistol Vilgax has hoolstered on his belt, it fires laser beams dangerous to many of Ben's aliens, without any limit on ammo.
Equipment
  • Power Converter
A large machine that Vilgax can hook up to a downed foe, it permanently adds the foe's stats and abilities to Vilgax’s own and allows him to replicate all their natural powers while said foe grows weak. This device can also absorb power from a foe's attacks. With this thing not only was Vilgax able to take the powers of the greatest heros of 10 worlds but it was powerful enough to absorb, contain and repurpose the full power of Diagon, a universal deity.
  • Neural inhibitors
Restraint that will paralyze the foe it is placed on from using their alien powers.
  • Chronosapien Time Bomb
Brokenly powerful weapon able to wipe an infinite number of timelines out of existence upon detonation, though he used his only one in an attempt to win the Time War. Yes there was a Time War.
Empire
Army
Vilgax has commands a massive robot army, His drones actually have a psychic link with Vilgax himself allowing him to command the entire force with his mere thoughts.
  • Basic Drones: These things are flying, laser shooting robots that can easily blast through walls and trees. • Gigantic Drones: These huge robots can casually destroy large buildings, it can fire lasers from its hands, missiles from its chest and Basic Drones from its shoulders
  • Insectoid Drones: Large flying bug like drones these things have grenade launchers and shoot lasers comparable to a nuclear bomb.
  • Mecha Drones: The Most powerful Drones seen in the first series these things can tear apart tech and use it to instantly upgrade itself at will it can rip through tank armor like tissue, and can grow in size, fly, fire lasers and heat seeking missiles, hack into advanced technology, and it’s AI is totally capable of analysing its foes actions and setting traps. This thing can endure some hits from Four Arms, a Giant Multi-City Block laser cannon, and Xylene telekinesis. It is strong enough to knock foes through several trees, and fast enough to fight many of Ben’s aliens additionally it can rapidly repair itself as long as the torso remains.
  • Normal Drones: Vilgax’s humanoid robots that run his ship and operate his tech, they are quite intelligent, can use laser rifles and are strong enough to resist being pulled into space.
  • Large Drones: a larger more armored version of the normal drone with a bigger gun.
  • Flying Drones: basically transformers that turn into planes, these things are capable of flight in atmosphere and outer space. Their pincer limbs can cut through space pods and they possess laser cannons for a long range weapon.
Squid Monsters
A natural pet on Vilgaxia, these creatures can be stored in certain areas to hibernate for up to a century before emerging hundreds-thousands at a time. They are incredibly loyal to Vilgax and posses claws, teeth and powers such as flight and elasticity, these things are capable of fighting city level massively hypersonic characters like Snare-Oh.
Psyphon
Psyphon is Vilgax’s extremely loyal right hand man that serves him with his life. Psyphon utilizes a lot of alien tech to make himself a powerful force to deal with, his tech can boost his physical stats, at max he could easily oneshot Spidermonkey and more than hold his own against the likes of Ultimate Spidermonkey and Armodrillo. Additionally he can generate force fields, throw multi-city block level grenades, fire lasers from his wrists and eyes, create energy constructs, and levitate through the air. He also has his own flying Drones called R.E.D.s (Robotic Extermination Devices) that fire powerful lasers and can tank hits from Gwen’s mana beams. His two most broken weapons are his Exciter Beam, which overloads the nervous system of any species it hits causing involuntary spasms and loss of bodily control he also has a Gauntlet laser that causes Simulation summoning and animacy granting.
Chimeran Hammer
The Chimeran Hammer is Vilgax’s personal warship, a massive mountain-sized and very heavily armed monster of a vessel. This frigid can travel across the galaxy and largely faster than light speeds, and comes equipped with hundreds of lasers, missiles and remote fighter ships. With this ship Vilgax can fire tow cables that can shatter stadium sized asteroids on impact, pull in other ships with a powerful tractor being, and teleport to and from a planet's surface Star Trek style. The ships two most dangerous weapons are the Front Mounted Laser Cannon which produces a beam so powerful is can obliterate entire planets, and its Giant Null Void Projector which can send entire planets to an alternate prison dimension.

Recommended Opponents:
Ridley:
Everyone’s favorite Giant Alien Pirate Dragon, Ridley is comparable Vilgax in all stats and has numerous different powers and forms himself that make this fight both even and interesting, heck even an army on army fight is even in this fight. Both character are Huge and infamous threats across the galaxy that have destroyed planets and civilizations for their own gain, AND have been battling a hero in the form of a human infused with alien DNA since said hero was a child. For the specifics of the fight I would suggest Meta Ridley as it is clearly the most fair for both sides.
