Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends VS Strategy Guide

I put off doing one of these for a cartoon series for too long, and considering Imp already covered The Powerpuff Girls and Wander, I may as well complete the McCracken Trifecta as it’s known, and cover one of my Favorite Cartoons, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. So Here's How to be OP in Foster’s.
Building Tier:
This is the main tier of the series, most of the characters fall here including all of the main and supporting cast. The stats of this tier are very clear cut and consistent, Bloo alone having dozens of Large Building level and Hypersonic feats, such as tanking a point blank explosion that blew the roof off the entirety of the Fosters mansion, and tying multiple complex knots and lassoing a support beam, all in less than half the time it took an elevator to drop to the basement, and most of the verse scales past Bloo, to the point he can be beat up by some small children.
Stats however are not what makes this tier dangerous, but the sheer capacity for threats. Every single young person in this verse has the ability to create mental creatures known as Imaginary Friends. While kids with less intelligence and creativity struggle with this, it is shown that even complete idiots like Terrance can make imaginary friends with some effort. On the other hand, kids who are extremely creative like Goo, can quickly amass small Armies of unique imaginary friends through this, even while sleeping. So naturally the sheer exponential growth of threats at this tier is unprecedented and needs to be addressed above all else.
But then lets get in to what Imaginary Friends themselves are capable of shall we, these beings are extremely diverse and because of that are really hard to find any form of universal weaknesses. Sure, SOME of them age and need to do human things like rest, eat and breathe, but there's also tons that don’t do any of that, everything about Imaginary Friends is optional by nature, which means there can be no specific weaknesses and only broad strategies will work against them or you will quickly get countered yourself.
Now to go over what “Normal” Imaginary Friends have shown to be capable of doing, all of these powers are possessed by a character in the series yes, but are ALSO free game for any potential new friends kids think up in any combination. To Start things off with the main cast, Wilt has Elasticity, and Coco can create large amounts of complex matter from nothing through her egg laying ability, essentially letting her pull any form of weapon imaginable, or even things like knockout gas. Numerous Imaginary Friends possess flight which increases mobility, invisibility which increases stealth and would need a counter, and also logia abilities, such as being made of slime, clouds or water and therefore would need to be completely destroyed. Another fairly common ability in the series is some form of Elemental Manipulation, multiple friends are capable of breathing fire, the super villainous Nemesister can manipulate light, and the Extremeasaurus’ have displayed explosion and electricity manipulation. For more obscure powers of the series, one of the imaginary puppies has flat out laser vision, Uncle Pockets has spatial manipulation abilities able to store large things into a pocket dimension which can work as a BFR, and heck there's even a VERY minor character named Time Traveling Tina, who is straight up an Acausal Time Traveler who is stated to be able to take others through time as well. If all that wasn’t enough though, you have to deal with Goo’s Spacenutboogies, who have a BUNCH of powers including Tentacles, Acidic Soap Breath, Duplication, Flight, Lava manipulation, Ice resistance and flat out immunity to spacetime hax, meaning a time or space manipulation ability to counter Tina and Pockets will not affect them.
So what would be the most effective counter strategies to this series? As mentioned above the biggest problem of the series is the fact that the threats can multiply exponentially if needed, and given the creative nature of imaginary friends, once the verse is against you beings that can counter your powers will crop up. Therefore the best way to deal with the verse is to do so in a way that doesn’t alert its inhabitants to your presence. This brings me to my first pick
Nana:
Nana from Elfen Lied! Nana is a Diclonius who can create up to 14 vectors from her back. These vectors are fast and tough enough to block missiles from the air force which puts her comparable to the series in stats. Nana would be extremely dangerous to the series due to appearing as nothing more than a harmless girl in a crowd, little do they know she has invisible arms that can cut foes to pieces springing from her back. This is basically an ultimate stealth attack for the verse, they wouldn't see it coming and no one around would have any idea what just happened! While Nana isn’t as versatile as a lot of the characters in the series, she does have the means to kill anyone in this tier and is a lot more trained and experienced in combat to do so.
For a more definitive answer...
Caldina:
Caldina from Magic Knight Rayearth. Caldina is a powerful illusionist from Magic Knight Rayearth, capable of tanking a skyscraper sized wind blast from Fuu, as well as keeping up with Ascot, who can disappear from sight at Hypersonic speeds. Caldina true to her name is able to create intricate illusions, almost like a dream or nightmare that can easily fool the characters of Foster’s into believing is real, and through this making stealth attacks would be extremely easy for her to pull off. The dangerous thing about Caldina however is something that's pretty surprisingly useful in a very creativity driven verse, and that is Mind Control. Caldina’s hypnotic mind control is incredibly potent, able to control multiple people at once and make them try to kill their friends or themselves, but its even MORE dangerous in Foster’s as if you take it to its logical extreme, she could take control of children and then literally have them make Imaginary Friend Warriors for her to use the Verses greatest Strength TO her Benefit.
Though all that said there is a much MUCH better way to stop this tier, and that is quite simply, to beat them at their own game...
Vendetta:
Vendetta is a main character from Nickelodeon’s Making Fiends series and would be my ultimate pick against this tier. Vendetta is an evil witch who uses cold science and black magic to create beings known as Fiends, horrific monsters that bend to her will. She is durable enough to endure a point blank explosion which completely demolished a solid stone statue the size of a large building, and an earthquake that made multiple stores bounce off the ground. In addition to that she scales in speed to her pet Hamster Grudge, who once physically traveled over 12,000 miles in only 2 hours, which makes her physical stats equal to if not slightly above those of Foster’s.
Vendetta re-defines OP in this strategy guide, as Vendetta wouldn’t be OP in Fosters, she would be Absolutely BROKENLY OP! I kid you not, she could conquer the verse in hours and no one in this tier has a remote chance of stopping her.
First and foremost Vendetta somehow exists on the physical, mental and absolute planes of reality, when someone thinks about her, that thought of her becomes a sentient extension of her mind, and can interact with the mind of the person that thought about her in any way it sees fit, including making Giant Powerful Fiends to wreak havoc on their imagination. What this means is if any kid attempted to make an imaginary friend to stop her, a Vendetta would appear in their mind and not only stop them from doing so, but likely cause them to end up creating the very fiends she creates in their mind to attack them in the real world to attack them their too.
But this is only 1 aspect of how badly Vendetta solos this series, another is the sheer rate she can create Fiends, in addition to making fiends by hand in her home at a pretty rapid rate already, she also has a paint like substance, that transmutates any object it touches into a fiend AND a machine that can quickly produce Thousands of clones of herself, or any Fiend she sees fit. Her Fiends would multiply exponentially at a rapid rate that even Goo pales in comparison too.
Lastly, comparing the Fosters Friends to the MF Fiends 1 to 1, it is very Clear Fiends are just more powerful entities, having powers like drastically manipulating others size, molecular manipulation, and heck even early in the series Vendetta made a fiend who could cut through ANYTHING by Spatially Separating it on the Metafictional Level, which would absolutely be a one-shot ability to anyone.
Stellar Tier:
Lastly we have Stellar Tier, the Tier that really shows what the verse is capable of, only one character ever reaches this level of power, that being the most powerful friend ever imagined, the literal Imagination Destination, World. World is so powerful that he was able to create and completely control his own dimension, and later destroy everything in it in a rage, while we don’t know the exact size of World’s….world, we Do know that it contains a Star of similar size to the sun, therefore making this at least a Stellar level feat. As far as Speed is concerned, he can travel from the ground to the clouds in a fraction of a second, making him Hypersonic and that the hard limit.
World himself is quite an interesting entity, being nothing more than a disembodied mouth and eyes, which slides from surface to surface and can possess literally anything that doesn’t already have a face, controlling it like a body. World can not only possess solid objects, but even liquids, gases and fire, as well as drastically change the size of his face to control large and small things. Talking about the Face itself, it exists on the consciousness plane, the 4th plane of existence, making it impossible to physically interact with, even if you destroy that which he is possessing at the time.
In addition to all that creation, destruction, reality warping and possession, he actually has several more powers. World is Clairvoyant can manipulate gravity, shoot lasers, rearrange a person's Molecular Structure, manipulate their size, will them to sleep, erase people from existence, and he can even generate a slime that can make armies of clones of people each of which can regenerate from being cut to pieces, so that’s also an issue to deal with.
So what are some good strategies to use against World, well obviously you’re going to need a face, no use risking yourself getting possessed so that's a requirement. Past that, World does have a few weaknesses, he is only able to be a single being at a time, if he is put into an area where there is a large amount of small objects around him like sand, he won’t be able to slide between objects due to not directly passing onto a single grain, also he has huge abandonment issues. A character who can change around the environment to something disadvantageous to World would be ideal, especially if they have abilities geared towards trapping opponents. It also wouldn’t hurt to have some manipulation abilities, this brings me to my first pick.
Mimi:
Mimi from Flip Flappers would be extremely challenging to deal with. Displaying casually hypersonic speeds and easily planet level reality warping power she would be able to compete with World. But on top of that Mimi is a Mental Plane entity and cannot be physically interacted with. This points out another huge shortcoming of World, he may BE a higher plane entity for defense, but all of his offensive abilities only affect the physical, leaving him unable to really harm her. But CAN Mimi in turn harm Him? Actually yes, Mimi has transmutation, this can be used to potentially GIVE a face to anything World may wish to overtake and could end up trapping him in a harmless state. Even worse off than that though is Mimi’s dimensional manipulation which could allow her to trap World in an even worse situation, a dimension of Pure Illusion where nothing for world to overtake even exists!
Mimi is able to make alternate timeline duplicates of herself, warp reality, rewind time itself and even rewrite someone's memories, and to top this all off she can do all of this from an interdimensional range, something World could definitely not achieve.
That said, arguments could be made that World, while Perma BFR’d, would be able to survive and therefore this isn’t a total victory, for that I’d suggest.
Algol:
Algol from the Soulcalibur series. Algol is the most powerful warrior king to ever walk the Soulcalibur earth. He has Hypersonic speeds, and while he’s not as raw powerful as World, it doesn’t even matter due to his Low Godly Regeneration removing the possibility he gets put down through physical damage at all. World basically cannot kill him, so what’s Algol got to unleash at him? Well Algol has a lot of powers that Mimi had like spatial manipulation and Dimensional BFR, only Algol’s leads to the Astral Chaos, a dimension where nothing really exists and corrupts those inside of it. If that wasn’t enough already Algol has a lot of powers that would be pretty devastating, like Bodily Control, Soul Hax, Numerous kinds of mental manipulation and best of all Sealing which is probably the best power to hit him with that doesn't involve just being able to hit consciousness entities.
That said, even he isn't the best option I found.
Medaka Kurokami:
Medaka Kurokami from the Medaka Box series is a pretty perfect counter all things considered. Medaka is easily able to keep up in speed, being able to catch multiple bullets pretty casually, and while her power is significantly less, she has MORE than the ability to deal with it. Medaka’s defenses include Invisibility, Probability Manipulation, Low High Regen and BEST of all, Forced Empathy, which works on hax and other planes of reality. With this she could simply turn all of Worlds attacks back against him or whatever he’s possessing. She also has abilities like spatial manipulation, Precognition and such to help her battle. But the real reason I picked her is because she’s actually able to erase things on the conceptual level, meaning she actually Can DIRECTLY kill World of her own power, while he would struggle tremendously to do the same.

  1. Amazing job Thor!

Verse seems quirky and like it would have hax abilities but it's raw stat level is deceivingly high given it's general appearance and slice of life nature! World's level of hax I know must have been hard to fight at his stat range regardless and I commend you for finding good counters.

I thought you did a really good job thinking of possible weaknesses to the verse despite it's immense versatility, using things like stealth and hijacking the imagination power.

I was really happy to see Caldina and Mimi, and I thought your ultimate counters were genius picks. Vendetta is scarily perfect as a counter for the verse, having exactly the right stats, abilities, and even thematics to fight the verse. Makes me wonder how Charlotte deals with her.

If I had one small bit of advice, it's that at some points you seem to just be listing the abilities a counter has and not explaining why it's useful.

That said, that's a rather small point overall. I thought you had some ingenious points such as how dimensional BFR would cut off World from using his abilities due to his lack of inter-dimensional range, and also the characters in the building tier, moreso Nana and Vendetta would blend in yet would also be able to immediately counter the verse too hard for the verse to effectively fight back.

Wonderful Job and would love to see you continue making these! :)

  2. Great blog! I think you chose some great counters for a verse this varied in abilities. I think my favorite counters are Vendetta and Nana. Haven't heard anyone talk about Making Fiends in a whiiilllee; I didn't even know Vendetta had that many powers but it really is perfect for the low tiers. Anyone from Elfen Lied would just be horrifying for this verse; like it would feel like a Robot Chicken scenario. This also makes me realize how unique a character World would be in versus battles given his abilities.

I almost consider this verse to be too pure and innocent to be involved in versus, but whatever its still fun to think about :P

  3. After re-watching Destination Imagination, I've noticed that there were some shots featuring some stars in a night sky, so World's likely even more powerful.
