Death Battle Prediction: Irene VS August

It’s Time for my first in-universe match, as we tackle probably the most debated rivalry fight in all of Fairy Tail. Boy this was one of the closest, but also most fun matchups I have ever taken on, as we’re about to dive into a head to head faceoff with the two most powerful members of the Legendary Spriggan Twelve. Two Wizards thought to be invincible, and redefining overpowered, but when compared to each other, are considered equal and would have an unknown outcome, that is until today. It's The Scarlet Despair Vs The Calamity, The Dragon Queen VS The Wizard King, it’s Irene Belserion VS August!

Background:

Irene:

400 years ago, on the continent of Ishgar, stood the Ancient Kingdom of Dragnof, a small but extremely powerful nation.

In this land, Humans and Dragons lived side by side in perfect harmony. They were not only steadfast allies, but great friends, who shared a symbiotic relationship that brought both species prosperity.

This land was ruled by the benevolent Queen of Dragons, Irene. Irene was an incredibly powerful Enchantress, crowned as Queen of this land due to having the highest magic power, and friendship of the great Sage Dragon, Belserion.

But all was not as well as it seemed, while dragons and humans were peaceful on this continent, Belserion’s travels revealed that on the neighboring one, Dragons were ruthless beasts who consumed humans. Dragons are effectively unstoppable creatures in combat, their speed and power are beyond human imagination, and they are completely immune to any form of magic that exists, so it was merely a matter of time before they devoured all the humans on their continent, and began searching for more.

Belserion Vowed that they would never allow this to happen, that they would protect the humans from their bestial counterparts at all costs.

And thus the War of the Dragons began, the friendly dragons of Dragnof in an all out battle against the savage monsters from the west, competing in a long series of terraforming battles across the land. Irene and other powerful wizards even tried to help their Dragon friends by enchanting their scales to be more durable.

But despite their efforts, the Savage Dragons had the Peaceful ones outnumbered greatly, and they were losing. Inspired by Belserion’s selfless resolve to continue fighting for humanity, no matter how many of his own kin were lost, Irene volunteered to fight by his side.

Belserion warned her that it was inconceivable she could survive a fight with a single dragon even with an army of humans, but Irene had an Idea so crazy, it just might work. Irene would use her Enchantment Magic, to Enchant the power of a Dragon, into a Human, creating a class of wizards who could fight a dragon head to head, and win.

And they would call this new power, Dragon Slayer Magic! Desperate, Belserion agreed to this idea and Irene channeled the power of their dragons into herself and her army.

With the new Dragon Slayers added to their ranks, Dragnof turned the tide of the war, and defeated the invading dragons, but the costs were immense.

The Dragons on their own side succumbed to their injuries after the long war, making dragons practically extinct in the world. Belserion was among the last to fall, and did so right before Irene’s eyes, causing her to take up his namesake to honor him. Little did she know, the worst was yet to come.

This early Dragon Slayer Magic was untested, and had quite the unforeseen side effect, all those who were imbued with this power would eventually turn into a Dragon themself.

Fearing they would become just like those monstrous dragons that threatened all of mankind, Irene’s husband ordered all the Dragon people imprisoned and scheduled for execution.

For the next 3 years, Irene’s life became a living hell, being put through every hardship imaginable, as she wallowed in a well of misery, but she managed to postpone her own execution with a major bombshell,

She was with child. Irene was pregnant, and had used her Enchantment magic to stall her baby's development to prevent it from coming into this world in this dark horrible place.

Doubting there was ever a child at all, Irene’s husband attempted to carve her open to prove it...this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Irene gave in to the Draconic transformation, turning her back on humanity and her kingdom and into a powerful Sage Dragon. And her first act..

Laying waste to her cruel husband and the entire kingdom that put her through that misery, flying off into the distance, free on the world.

For the next several hundred years, Irene would roam the wilderness, still holding that child inside of her, desperately trying to find a way to regain her human form, yet finding zero success at anything she tried.

That is until one day, Irene had a chance encounter with the Legendary Black Wizard, Zeref. Zeref recognized Irene as a human who was transformed into a dragon, and what Irene had failed to do for centuries, he did in an instant, restoring her human form. While Irene was obviously overjoyed by this, Zeref warned her that this form was only an appearance, she was still a dragon at heart, and would never truly be human. Irene was good with that however, and ran back to civilization.

But Irene soon found out what he had meant by that warning, Irene’s senses were still draconic, she suffered from insomnia, food lost all sense of flavor, her body was cold blooded and wanted to shed but couldn't.

Driven a bit looney by this, Irene remembered that child she was still carrying, it had a body, a human body, one that would even look close to how she does now.

After giving birth to her daughter, Irene attempted to use her enchantment magic to transfer her mind into her own baby, to free herself from the curse.

But ultimately, her own maternal instinct stopped her from being able to go through with it, forcing her to continue living in pain.

Unable to trust that she wouldn’t eventually lose control of herself and do it for real later, Irene left her child at an orphanage, in a town she never learned the name of, and went out of her way to forget its location, to protect her daughter from herself. She then went off to find the man who helped her regain her appearance, to see if he could help her any further.

Eventually, Irene found Zeref, who, operating under the name Emperor Spriggan, had become the ruler of the Alvarez Empire. Zeref helped her deal with the pain of her human form, and in exchange, Irene became a member of what would be known as The Spriggan Twelve, a group of the twelve most powerful beings in Alvarez dedicated to protecting his majesty, Emperor Spriggan. Irene, extremely loyal to Zeref after all he’d done for her, is the Spriggan Twelve’s top enforcer, known under the terrifying title, The Scarlet Despair. Her power is godlike among the Twelve, considered to only be equaled by its leader, August.

Irene is an extremely wise, confident and mysterious figure, often spouting out dark folklore, or playfully taunting her opponents and playing with their emotions. She is brave enough to try and 1v1 Achnologia, who August said not even the Spriggan Twelve working together stood a chance against, and she always comes off like she's in full control of a situation. Irene is really good at reading people, seeming to have more of an understanding of Zeref than any other member of the twelve, yet despite her loyalty to him, she is easily the least likely to follow his plans and orders, liking more to do things Her Way. While she was initially a very heroic character, the centuries of suffering have warped her into a rather cold and cruel person, that almost never opens up, and even some of her closest friends are still pretty scared of. That said she is very protective of those she cares for, even if she doesn’t want to admit it. When her duties lead her to have to fight her own Daughter, who by the way grew up to be Erza Scarlet of Fairy Tail, she tried to pretend she didn’t care and slay her for their empire, but again found she couldn't do it and chose rather to take her own life, the redemption for her life as a horrible mother.

August:

Nearly a century ago, there existed a forbidden love that never should have been. A love sparked between the Ancient Black Wizard, Zeref, and the Immortal Founder of Fairy Tail, Mavis Vermillion. Zeref suffered from what is known as The Curse of Ankhseram, which drained away the lifeforce of those around him proportionally to how much he cared for them. While Mavis was not normally threatened by this, the moment their love became real, The Curse became Strong enough to do the unthinkable.

Mavis wasn’t dead, but she became trapped in an eternal sleep, believing she was completely lost to this world, Zeref brought her back to her wizard guild, and left for Alvarez to mourn and distract himself from the insurmountable anguish he was now feeling.

The Guild Master at the time, Precht, put Mavis’ body inside of a powerful healing crystal inside the Guild’s basement, believing it would eventually restore Mavis, and began studying her in hopes of finding a way to speed the process up.

When he did so, he found a Mic Drop right out of Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, Mavis was Pregnant, and Zeref was the Father, and 9 months later, he had to pull a baby out of that crystal and decide what to do about it.

Due to both his parents being S+ Class Wizards, the boy was born with incredible magic power, one that let him learn things at a rapid pace, so much so that he magically gained all the recent memories of his mother, just by looking at her.

After much debate, Precht decided that Zeref’s child was too dangerous to be kept around, but he also could not bring himself to kill him directly, so opted to abandon him in the mountains.

But because of this rapid learning ability, the child managed to survive on his own for the next several years, living alone and unloved on the streets, but eventually, he stumbled into his Father.

Noticing his extremely high Magic Power, Zeref took the boy in, thinking he may be a major asset to him, which he happily agreed to, but knowing of Zeref’s curse, decided not to tell him he was his son so he could stay close at his side.

Zeref decided that this boy also needed a Name, for some reason this kid reminded him of a lovely girl that was very special to him, a girl he had met in the month of August, and so that became his name.

Frankly I don’t know what he was seeing, I mean i don’t notice anything in common between these two whatsoever, nope, nothing alike. Anyway, August was brought over to the Western Continent, where he spent the next Nine Decades learning magic and helping Zeref build it into the Mighty Alvarez Empire.

But during all this time their relationship was kept strictly professional, and never the loving parent-child relationship that August so desperately yearned for. Still, August is easily the most loyal and very arguably the most powerful ally Zeref has.

It was this that allowed him to eventually, not only join the Spriggan Twelve, but become its Leader. August is rumored to now know SO Many spells that his power variety is even greater than Zeref himself. To his Allies, he is known as The Wizard King, but to his enemies, he is The Calamity.

August is very stern, cool under pressure and quite well grounded, being confident in his abilities but also quite aware of his weaknesses. He’s very dedicated to his father/ruler, and has worked very hard in helping him build his Empire and become a powerful enforcer. He is considered the wisest of the Twelve, and rarely shows any strong emotion or spontaneous behavior, generally coming off as rather mellow to friend or foe alike. He genuinely believes that the only truly good thing in the world is love, and everything else is not worth becoming emotional. When fighting for Zeref, No one is more loyal and Wrathful than August, yet he is also quite merciful to those he has bested and values companionship. Despite being almost 100 years old, August still wishes to simply experience being loved by his parents, and stubbornly will do whatever he can to please them. He was going to Sacrifice himself to destroy Fairy Tail for his father, but stopped his attack upon seeing his mother’s disapproval, dying without either knowing who he was.

Intellect & Skill:

Irene:

Irene is over 400 years old, making her an extremely experienced and powerful wizard, inventing numerous types of magic, including Dragon Slayer Magic, and attaining the Grand High Enchanter classification. She has a great deal of knowledge on history, literature and battle tactics, and at one point was body swapped with Wendy Marvell, and was able to almost instantly learn how to use her Sky magic to a higher proficiency than she could.

In terms of combat skill, Irene is able to easily outskill her daughter Erza in physical combat, even when Erza has backup. Erza is considered to be the greatest sword fighter on her entire continent, capable of insane feats of skill such as using her feet to wield swords with enough accuracy to block danmaku shots, deflecting bullets in such a way as to hit into Billiard Balls and win a game of Pool, and besting the swordswoman Ikaruga, who can sever someone's entire nervous system in a single sword slash without cutting their skin or clothing. Irene was also able to briefly survive a battle with Achnologia, who should have been able to Blitz and One-shot her by her own admission.

August:

August has shown to be able to learn incredibly quickly from a very young age, and has many times over been shown to have basically cryptic knowledge of anything magical, such as being aware of even the Vampiric Magic of a Wizard Saint, and spells that Irene herself has invented. According to Brandish, August is the wisest member of the Twelve and has certainly gathered a great deal of experience in his old age.

As far as Combat Goes, August was able to fight Gildarts head to head and not only match, but exceed him in skill. Gildarts is so skilled that he, Without Using his Magic, was able to Defeat a man who was Trained to proficiently defeat 50 Armed opponents all at once in hand to hand combat. Gildarts had only lost a single fight before this, to Achnologia, which he ALSO managed to survive despite Achnologia having much higher stats than him.

Powers:

Irene:

  • Sage Dragon Slayer Magic:

While Irene doesn’t use this power offensively very often, due to it basically being the cause of her suffering, she is a full fledged Sage Dragon Slayer. Dragon Slayer is a class of Wizards who use magic to give themselves the powers and attributes of Dragons, extremely powerful and intelligent beings who are each connected to a certain element. Dragon Slayers all possess extremely potent super senses, able to see, hear and smell people from literally hundreds of miles away, detect poisons and drugs and predict their opponents moves. Irene was personally able to detect the arrivals of each wave of their enemies, and was casually aware of her allies Bloodman and Larcade’s positions the entire time. Because of Irene’s Dragon Slayer Magic being an experimental version from its foundation, she also got Draconic Lifespan along with it, which is the reason she has not aged a day in 400 years.

All Dragon Slayers also get a specific elemental power to utilize, be it Fire, Lightning, Shadow or in Irene’s case, Sage. Sage magic is a damaging enchantment tool that is capable of negating medicinal properties, draining a foes health down to zero, and launching out beams of pure destruction, and because its Dragon Slayer magic, it is capable of harming Dragons.

Dragon Slayers are immune to being harmed by their own element, and can actually consume and absorb said element from any source they did not originally create, to heal their injuries, replenish lost stamina and grow more powerful.

Irene can use Sage magic for a variety of powerful attacks, including Sage Dragon Roar, where she breathes a gigantic beam of sage from her mouth, or Sage Dragon Penance, where she produces an aura that sucks in her foes energy.

She can also generate sage attacks in the area ranging from gigantic Area of Effect Explosions to Danmaku style spreads of lasers and energy blasts.

  • Eye Magic:

It seems that Draconic Super Senses weren’t enough for Irene, as she also went out of her way to learn Eye Magic. Eye Magic allows her to remotely create gigantic eyeballs that can scan and spy on an entire distant area at once, projecting it directly into her real eye, nothing escapes her gaze.

This eye can zoom in on any specific thing she wants to focus on, and even allows her to talk through it, letting her speak to the entire battlefield. The biggest drawback to this power is the Giant Eye in the Sky can be seen by people, and isn’t exactly conspicuous, so not the stealthiest means of spying.

  • Enchantment:

Irene’s best and most often utilized powers are her Enchantments. Enchantment or Augmentation Magic, is essentially the ability to imbue magic into beings and objects to alter or grant new properties. After studying Enchantments for 4 centuries, Irene is considered a Grand High Enchanter, giving her the most powerful and versatile enchanting in the series.

Grand High Enchanters are defined as being able to Enchant Nature itself, as Irene displayed when standing on a mountain that had been covered in snow for centuries, and made the entire mountain range become warm and covered in luscious flowers by enchanting it with the power of Spring, or the time she enchanted her own baby to delay its birth by hundreds of years.

This power can be applied offensively in all manners of deadly ways, from creating massive weather events, setting the atmosphere itself ablaze, and creating harmful magical status effects on the area.

She can also use the Enchantment, Disappear, to cause anything in her line of sight to just detonate. Irene can Enchant essentially anything she wants, from random pockets of air, to her foes armor, to even her foe themself, and there's a wide variety of things she can manipulate.

Enchantments can drastically change the hardness of things, rapidly increasing or decreasing the durability.

She can enchant things to take on different states of matter, such as turning hundreds of swords into liquid in a single second.

And she can use Transmutation Enchantment to just straight up transform things into other things. Like with most Transmutation, turning a living being into an object counts as instant death.

Irene can Enchant tremendous amounts of gravity into someone, to the point even Acnologia himself was knocked back by it, and he is well beyond Irene’s league.

Additionally, she can enchant gravity into herself to gain access to Levitation and Flight. She also knows the more traditional Enchantment Castings.

With Deus Corona, Irene can drastically raise the defenses of herself or others, gaining increased durability, poison resistance and protection against elemental attacks and other status effects. With Deus Eques she can raise all physical abilities of herself and others, she granted this power to the relatively weak wizard, Neinhart, and he grew so powerful he became superior to fellow Spriggan Twelve member Brandish.

Irene can cast enchantments like this on literally hundreds of thousands of people at once, and has even combined the spells to form her own unique enchantment.

The Berserker Enchantment, turns those afflicted into monsterous, beastial killing machines. It raises their power so dramatically that even complete Mooks become relevant to Erza Scarlet, one of Fairy Tail’s strongest wizards. The Berserkers are also completely immune to all forms of Pain, they will not go down until they are dead.

Irene also knows the more advanced, Deus Zero. This spell instantly removes and nullifies all previous enchantments cast onto something, it can counter any buff, debuff and even another Deus Zero.

Then there's the parent power of Deus Zero, Separation Enchantment. This is essentially the Debuff power of enchantment, as it lets the caster separate certain aspects out of beings. It has been used to separate personalities out of people, free people who are possessed by astral entities, and stole the Fairy Heart energy source out of Mavis’ Body.

Probably most devastatingly against Wizards, Separation Enchantment is able to separate someone from their very magic power, making them “Dead...as a wizard”, Those affected by this will no longer be able to use magic for at least months on end, if not permanently, and suffer from Magic Deficiency Syndrome that entire time.

But Irene doesn’t just have the ability to remove magic from others, but place magic into them as well. Enchanters can Enchant themselves, others and even objects with their own or their allies magic. And as a Dragon Slayer, Irene can even use the rare Dragon Seal Enchantment, an enchanted emblem that allows any magic the wearer casts to harm dragons.

One of the most Infamous Powers in her Enchantment grab-bag is the Personality Enchantment. With this, Irene can leave her body and Possess someone else, completely overpowering and shutting down that other person's mind. Even after she was forced to leave Wendy, Irene’s mental presence still existed within her.

Then we get into Conceptual Enchantment, these are enchantments that are utilized in the spiritual arts, and allow one to attach attributes onto people, objects or even other attributes.

Also unlike other Enchantments, and all other Magics in the series, that draw from Ethernano, Conceptual Enchantment draws from a Ki like substance called Suspiria. This means that any ability that nullifies, resists or manipulates magic would be rendered useless against it, because technically it's not magic.

What IS Magic however, is Irene’s ultimate Enchantment spell, Universe One. Universe One is an incredibly powerful Nature Enchantment Irene created herself, that floods into the ground beneath her feet and manipulates and rearranges Space.

This Spell was SO Powerful that it quickly spread across the entire continent of Ishgar, allowing Irene to choose where and how a few certain things moved and caused the rest to fall into place randomly.

Buildings normally hundreds of miles away from each other were brought together, Islands days off the coast were connected to the shoreline and the entire continent was compressed to 1/20th of its original size, just from the sheer power of Irene’s Spatial Enchant.

  • Juliet Sun & Heine Lunasea:

Juliet and Heine are Irene’s personal assistants and companions who always stick close by her side and are extremely loyal. Juliet is a kooky, happy-go-lucky airhead while Heine is a witty, elegant badass. One might assume including them is outside help, but actually it isn’t.

You see originally, Irene possessed two magical swords dubbed the White Sword and the Black Sword which she carried around with her on her belt.

The Swords possessed powers that Irene could draw upon in combat, but as carrying them around proved a little annoying, she decided it would be more convenient to let these swords be a bit more independent.

So Irene enchanted her swords to take on human bodies and personalities and can now summon them to her whenever she needs. So even though they look and act human, they are functionally equipment.

Equipment or not, these two are seriously dangerous, being experts in hand to hand combat who are fast enough to score hits on Jet, one of the fastest characters in the Fairy Tail Guild.

As well as being so durable they were able to tank the aura Given off by Mirajane’s Alegria takeover form, which literally Boiled Away the entire Sea next to them in an instant.

Juliet is a master of Mucus Magic, which lets her produce a white viscous liquid that she can blast from her hands or manifest on people and objects. This goo has Acidic properties, able to burn the flesh of even Mira in her Satan Soul form, and Mira is an S Class Mage.

This Goo can also either become so sticky it completely immobilizes targets it hits, or so slippery it's impossible to get friction, causing people to slip.

Heine on the other hand is a master of Magical Bands, which are extendible layers of cloth that can grab and ensnare their targets, hitting or restraining them as well as blocking attacks.

These Bands can be charged with electricity to shock her foes to death. Just like Juliet, these attacks are relevant to Mira.

  • Dragon Form:

Lastly, Irene can also swap from her human form to her true Dragon form at will. Becoming a Dragon vastly increases her stats to unimaginable levels as the titanic force of her presence can be felt across the nation. She can fly with her enormous Dragon Wings, gains an increase in all her magical attributes, and has one of the strongest defenses in all of Fairy Tail, Dragon Scales.

Dragon Scales are one of the toughest materials in the entire verse and are Completely IMPERVIOUS to nearly every type of magic that exists in the entire series, making her essentially impossible to defeat without surpassing her in power. Even IF one manages to get through these scales, her Dragon form has shown the survivability needed to take a massive slash through her entire neck and upper chest, like a bee sting. And if that wasn’t enough, this state raises her already insane Grand High Enchanter Status, to the only rating higher, Master Enchanter.

Master Enchanting is Enchantment that goes beyond affecting the nature of Earthland and now allows one to affect other heavenly bodies themselves. With this, Irene can use the dreaded Enchantment, Deus Sema, which allows her to telekinetically pull Meteors from Space to bombard and devastated Earthland.

August:

  • Copy:

August’s Primary Magic is called Copy, one of the most versatile yet hard to master powers in the series. When faced with opposing Magic, Copy simultaneously does three things; Allow August to mimic and utilize the same magic; Master whatever magic that is; and Neutralize that same magic when it is used against him. Effectively, Copy makes it so August can learn whatever magic is being thrown at him to such a degree of proficiency that he can just cancel it out when a foe attempts to use it on him, he doesn’t even attempt to dodge attacks that come his way because he is just immune to said ability now. Also, because it specifically lets him fully Master the ability, August can outperform those who have studied this power for years, and draw upon the powers of any foe he’s copied in the past. To go over what those are:

He’s Copied Sound Magic from Erik. This grants him Massive superhuman hearing that allows him to detect sounds from hundreds of miles away and predict all of someone's moves, via hearing their muscles. It is so potent he can also straight up read minds, via hearing their thoughts and memories, allowing him to casually dodge damnaku attacks and take on elite martial artists, all of which applies to August.

From Sawyer, he copied Slow Magic, which allows him to create a time distortion field around the immediate area, where everything becomes hundreds of times slower, allowing the user to appear to move at untraceable speeds by comparison.

When against Macbeth, he learned his Reflector Magic, which lets him reflect and manipulate any non sentient thing, allowing him to reflect away attacks, bombard foes with the environment, and even create complex illusions by messing around with surrounding light.

He also learned Crush Magic from his fight with Gildarts. Crush Magic allows one to spatially break down any matter it affects into tiny pieces or even nothingness. It is even capable of spatial haxing non corporeal things into little pieces, such as Fire, Wind and even a small Blackhole Singularity.

August mastered this so thoroughly he even learned a spell Gildarts has never used, Realize, which allows him to disassemble and reassemble himself at will and use it as a means of defense and traversion.

He can phase through attacks with logia, fly around as separate pieces and pseudo teleport.

Lastly, from Cana, August was able to Copy Fairy Glitter. Fairy Glitter is one of the 3 Grand Fairy Spells created by August’s mother Mavis, and is one of the most powerful spells in the entire series.

It gathers light from the Sun, the Moon and the Stars and blasts with a magic that ‘denies the targets very existence’. This can Erase anything from existence in just a single shot, from the most powerful wizards in the series, to even ethereal mental projections and ghosts. BUT despite Copy magic even being able to duplicate and nullify a spell like this, it Does have a weakness.

You see in the Fairy Tail series, Magic is divided into Two Distinct Categories. Caster Type Magic, which is any magic that wizards can cast directly from their body, essentially any powers they have, and Holder Type Magic, which is magic that a wizard needs to utilize specific enchanted artifacts to perform, essentially magic that relies on tools.

Because August does not possess these magical tools, he cannot copy Holder Type magic, or spells that are cast through objects.

This also applies to his magic nullification, he will have to actually dodge holder type magic attacks. That said, August is very smart and does not advertise that he is Copying Magic in the first place, instead claiming that he simply spent his life mastering every type of magic that exists which, if you’re a Caster Type Wizard, you would never know the difference if he had or not.

  • Name Spells:

When not using his Copy abilities, August has learned a fair deal of spoken word spells that are pretty versatile in any situation to cover all bases. August merely has to say a word and stuff starts happening around him.

With ‘Sink’, August can cause his targets to phase into the earth to never resurface, presumably to suffocate as if they are buried alive.

‘Rip’ is an Aerokinetic spell that sends a huge amount of wind blades to slash up the target.

With ‘Blast’ August can psychically make a large amount of explosions anywhere in his field of vision.

‘Slumber’ allows him to instantly Induced Sleep upon his victim, even on fellow Spriggan Twelve member, Brandish.

‘Bullet’ allows him to shoot powerful bolts of magic out of his finger like he's Freeza or something, which are casually capable of punching a hole through Mirajane, one of the strongest wizards in Fairy Tail.

Lastly, with ‘Melt’ he can make the ground erupt in a massive Lava explosion powerful enough to burn Natsu.

  • Magical Barrier:

Another of his common powers is his ability to create extremely durable magical barriers. These can take the forms of large walls and domes and be cast remotely in any location August is aware of.

It once stopped a massive Lightning attack that would have Killed fellow Spriggan Twelve member, Ajeel, without even the slightest hint of damage.

August can also both detect and disable magical radar detection from the psychic wizard, Warren, who could detect the entire Alvarez Army’s invasion force from throughout the Country.

  • Battle Form:

August’s Battle form puts his body into the absolute peak of physical fighting condition and gives him access to numerous offensively beneficial abilities.

His extreme age basically becomes a nonfactor as his athleticism becomes effectively unrivaled when compared to normal wizards, and can keep on fighting even when intensely injured.

Even being Stabbed through the gut, and having that blade expanded in size until the wound basically bisected him, could not slow him down.

In this state, August can also Levitate and Fly at his leisure and manipulate some sort of red magical energy.

This energy can be used to surround himself in a damaging battle aura, be channeled into his staff as a weapon, ensnare his foes in bindings, detonate on contact,

And even be used effectively as telekinesis. That said all of this pales in comparison to his Ultimate Spell...

  • Ars Magia:

August’s ultimate attack is the ancient, forbidden spell, Ars Magia, an area of effect spell that melts the earth, and vaporizes the blood and oxygen inside of all living creatures, essentially causing everything to wither into ash and dust. This is the kind of devastating, scorched earth massacre spell that earned him the title, The Calamity.

Not only does this spell kill anything in the area, but it actually will quickly disable the magic of all those in its wake, so they are powerless to stop it from happening. The Area of Effect this spell has, depends on the amount of magic power the caster pours into it.

August was going to use this to destroy the entire continent of Ishgar all at once! However, Ars Magia requires a large deal of magic power, and if the caster runs out, the spell will destroy them as well. Because of this, August tends to use this more sparingly and on a much smaller scale. But still, he only died to this spell after intentionally canceling it, so he's got a LOT of magic power to use.

Feats:

Irene:

Strength:

  • Irene was able to easily Match and far exceed Erza in physical power, later in that same fight, after Erza became seriously injured, Irene summoned a Massive Meteorite, bigger than the largest mountain, to crash into Earthland at Sub-Relativistic Speeds.

Erza responded to this by jumping up into the sky and crashing headfirst into this Meteor with enough force to violently shatter it to pieces, and wasn’t even fazed. I have calced this a few times from different angles and have gotten different results, but the Minimum value is well in excess of 800 Teratons and the Max gets into the dozens of Petatons.

  • To back up that Petatons result, Irene’s Universe One spell was able to drastically rearrange the entire continent of Ishgar as I stated earlier. Well after Irene’s Death, the entire continent of Ishgar returned to normal! This means that the entire time she was fighting over the roughly 12 hours from cast to break, she must have been casually maintaining the form of the continent with her magic power without growing tired.

  • In her Dragon form, Irene grows immensely more powerful, so much so she was able to shatter Erza’s left arm and both of her legs with just a single casual swipe.

  • Turned an entire tundra into a Meadow.

  • At one point in her backstory, Killed a Dragon in a Single Attack.

  • Destroyed her kingdom’s castle in one blast.

  • Could still overpower Erza while possessing Wendy.

  • Her power was enough to create a massive sky beam across a city and insta-beat Nebaru in his actual dragon form.

Durability:

  • Tanked Erza hitting her over the head with a full powered strike from her Crimson Black Blade, Not only was Erza in a FAR less injured state than when she destroyed the Meteor here, but Wendy was at the time boosting all of her physical abilities beyond normal, it only gave Irene a small cut.

  • In her Dragon State she is so durable that she planned to just flat out Tank her own meteor strike point blank before Erza destroyed it.

Speed:

  • Managed to dodge an attack from Acnologia, the most powerful villain in the original series, who scales significantly above Erza.

  • Erza was significantly faster than Irene’s meteorite, which was traveling at sub relativistic speeds, considering Erza had two broken legs at the time, her normal speed is certainly significantly above this value as well. Not only can Irene casually keep up with Erza in combat,

But at one point, Erza struck Irene with her Heaven’s Wheel, a Danmaku style attack that launched Hundreds of Swords at speeds comparable to Erza’s.

Irene casually was able to, not only block every single sword, but arrange the swords into a complex flower shape before Erza saw her move.

  • Was casually able to block and dodge numerous attacks from Erza even while Wendy was amping all her physical attributes.

  • Defeated the ENTIRE Royal army in less than a second.

General:

  • Her attacks were powerful enough to Knock Back Acnologia a couple times, though didn't do damage.

  • According to Brandish, Irene is the only wizard in Earthland who would have a chance against August in a head to head fight, in fact her power should be considered equal to, maybe even greater than his, no one knows what the outcome of their battle would be.

  • Survived Erza cutting a massive hole in her torso in Dragon Form.

August:

Strength:

  • August was able to Easily defeat Jellal, Erik, Sawyer, Macbeth and Richard ALL AT ONCE. For context, the latter four are all former members of the Oracion Seis, each considered capable of single handedly dispatching an entire Guild of Wizards. And Jellal is so tough, he once beat the four of them single handedly before. Yet according to Jellal, he and his guildmates don’t even Begin to compare to him.

  • He Blocked a powerful lightning attack from Laxus that would have killed Ajeel. Laxus was more powerful than Erza at this point and Ajeel is another member of the Spriggan Twelve.

  • Is regarded by Brandish as on a completely different level from most of the Twelve, in fact she says that the month of August is looked at as a time of reckoning in her continent simply because he exists.

  • Was beating the crap out of Gildarts with physical and magical attacks alike and Impaled him on his staff. Gildarts was at the time, and still to this day is, the most powerful wizard in all of Fairy Tail, he scales Massively above Erza and her meteor feat.

  • Caused an Earthquake just by awakening his true power.

  • Made a giant explosion of Lava that was wider than mountains and high enough to reach the sky.

  • Causally shot a hole through Mirajane, who is an S Class Wizard.

  • His magic aura was so strong it coated the entire horizon and caused everything in it to tremble and warp.

  • Nearly wiped out the entire continent.

Durability:

  • Gildarts, a guy who was able to easily defeat God Serena (the number 1 ranked wizard on the continent), once punched August with his most powerful spell, while channeling it through his prosthetic arm so he couldn’t use Copy to block it, and it still failed to seriously harm August.

  • Endured a surprise punch from Gildarts that wrecked the church as a side effect.

  • Tanked a shot from Cana’s card magic.

Speed:

  • Feel like a parrot at this point, but August could casually compete with Gildarts in speed. Gildarts is ridiculously above Erza and her speed feats so August easily scales past those as well.

  • Outspead Sawyer, who’s entire gimmick is to slow down whoever he’s fighting.

  • Walked cross-continent in a short timeframe.

General:

  • Is the Official Leader of the Spriggan Twelve.

  • Was the Last Member of the Spriggan Twelve to fall, even including the 8 members who got defeated twice.

  • Survived being nearly bisected by Brandish.

Weaknesses:

Irene:

Irene’s greatest weakness is her overconfidence in herself, she acts as though she can do whatever she pleases without consequence because of her power. This has led her to get into unfavorable matches in the past, not obey Zeref’s direct orders, or justify her failings as just a delay to the inevitable. She feels a great deal of guilt over what a wretched Mother she has been to Erza, and tries to mask this with apathy and rage, pretending to have no care at all for her.

August:

August’s magic is able to be countered by Holder type spells, so while he comes off as being just completely invincible, he has to maintain this illusion to prevent his foes from figuring this weakness out and gaining the upper hand on him. He is practically obsessed with parental love and will do whatever it takes to try to be a good son and obtain some small part of it, which has led to him being quite indecisive about his priorities in the past.

Summary:

Irene:

Advantages:

  • Despite what their looks would suggest, has much more experience.

  • In her Dragon State, Significantly Stronger.

  • Magic effectively has limitless applications.

  • Juliet and Heine qualify as Holder Magic.

  • Is immune to any of his Hax in Dragon Form.

Disadvantages:

  • Is vulnerable to hax in her human state.

  • Her magic cannot directly attack August.

  • Doesn’t have any idea how August’s magic works.

August:

Advantages:

  • Has a more versatile magical arsenal.

  • Copy can prevent her from attacking him directly with magic.

  • Would gain full knowledge on her abilities by copying them.

  • Significantly more grounded and level headed.

  • Better Movement Options.

Disadvantages:

  • Could be overwhelmed from many angles at once.

  • Can’t directly compete with Irene’s Dragon Form.

  • He can’t Copy magic cast from Suspiria.

Battle:

The Sun hung low in the sky over the damaged battlefields of Fiore, buildings in ruin, Alvarez soldiers littered across the area, and a cloud of dust floating decimeters off the ground in every direction. But the desolate environment only managed to look bleaker when The Calamity himself briskly walked past. August marched towards a series of damaged structures, where the thunderous blows of an intense battle could be heard. As he cleared them he witnessed none other than The Scarlet Despair herself, battling Erza Scarlet, another Fairy Tail member, Wendy, lying unconscious on the ground. With one more titanic blow from her staff, Irene knocked Erza away into the ground, having won the fight without breaking a sweat.

“That’s the best you can do Erza? Surely you must be joking, pathetic…” she said, raising her staff, which glowed with a menacing Red energy. “Oh well, either way, your screams of torment are going to provide me Much entertainment!”

“Irene…” August said as he walked up behind her. Irene lowered her staff as she turned to face him. “Oh, hello August, you’ll have to excuse me, we’re having a little Mother-Daughter time right now”

August glanced at the downed warrior and then back to her, “His Majesty requires your presence, we have located the Fairy Heart”

Irene grew a slight grin, “Really now, such pleasant news, you can tell him I’ll be there soon, I just have to give young Erza here a bit of discipline”

The expression of disdain did not leave August's face, looking to Erza, he raised his finger and charged up a Bullet shot, to quickly end her life so they could move on. Irene’s staff connected with August’s arm and brushed it aside, “Now now, you’ve already robbed me of my fun once today with that move August, I won’t tolerate you doing it again” Irene’s face had a smirk, but her eyes told she was drawing a serious line in the sand.

“You would disobey my direct order? His Majesty’s direct order?” August bluntly said. Irene looked him dead in the eyes, “Maybe I do, maybe if he waited so many centuries for this, he can wait a little longer”

The two imposing figures stood there, their eyes locked on one another as the ground beneath their feet began to rumble, the air began to tremble, debris began to float up from the ground. Feeling the immense magic power coming from the duo, Erza climbed to her feet, scooped up Wendy, and did the only thing she could do, RUN.

A Fire-like aura engulfed the two and began violently pushing against each other, the pressure of their two powers building more and more until it eventually broke and the two were pushed an equal distance of several meters back from each other, when their cold eyes met, they knew what this meant.

FIGHT!

“I will not tolerate such insubordination!” August wailed as he rushed forward, thrusting his staff towards Irene’s head. Irene blocked the blow with her own staff, “well I don’t tolerate old fools who don’t know their place, Oh Mighty Wizard King” she taunted as she spun in place, knocking his staff back and throwing a roundhouse kick at his chest. August quickly caught her foot in his hand, he pulled her forward and prepared to deliver a powerful blow into the ground, but Irene suddenly did a backflip, kicking him in the chin with her other leg and landing away from him as he stumbled back.

Irene gave a chuckle as she was suddenly surrounded by floating red spheres which blasted forward towards August’s location, striking him in a tremendous explosion. As more and more blasts bombarded, a satisfied smile grew on Irene’s face, she had Assumed August would pose more of a challenge, but this was going well.

August brushed aside the smoke that surrounded him, he stood tall, unaffected by Irene’s projectiles, “What?” Irene said in disbelief.

“Blast.” August coldly stated. Irene heard the dozens of sparks pop up around her and without a second to spare, jumped up into the air to avoid the series of explosions. She glided through the air dodging numerous additional detonations while August tracked her through the sky. Irene pointed her staff towards August, “Transmutation Enchant, become the Dust you are!” A red light surrounded The Wizard King, but quickly dissipated, unable to enchant August, much to Irene’s shock.

“Enchantment Magic, one of the most useful tools a wizard can have, that’s why, I mastered it many years ago.” August spoke as he cast the same Enchantment on Irene.

Irene fell to the ground, feeling the enchantment trying to transform her, “Urr, Deus Zero!” she called as she looked up towards The Wizard King, but to her shock noticed there was not one, but dozens of August’s surrounding her on all sides. The August’s Raised their Staffs and all charged Irene at the same time.

August knew this spell would allow him to land some solid hits, and he had to make them count if he was to end this fight quickly. As he rushed her, Irene turned around to face him, her eyes marked with glowing red crosses. August looked up in the sky and saw a gigantic eyeball looking down on him, out of range of his illusion.

“Hmm, Nice Attempt old man, but Nothing escapes my gaze” The ground beneath August suddenly glowed Scarlet Red, “Disappear.”

In an act to protect himself, August cast Slow magic. With time slowed down he quickly ran from his current position as it was slowly consumed by a gigantic explosion. Once he was out of range, August then ran around the blast where he found Irene, who barely had time to move her eye to glance at him before he delivered a powerful punch into Irene’s exposed belly which launched her through a nearby structure. Capitalizing on this, August quickly ran up behind Irene to deliver another blow to the back of her head.

“All physical abilities up, Deus Eques!” Irene said to herself as she suddenly became fast enough to turn around and catch August’s punch in her clawed hand, a collision that shook the earth below.

“Ya know August, I think us eventually coming to this was an inevitability, and I’m happy to say, you’ve proven yourself worthy of my Full Attention” she brought her staff down and slammed it into his chest. August recoiled back before swinging his staff back at her, which she blocked.

The two continued to throw blow after blow with blinding speed and power, neither one able to gain much of a decisive edge for long.

This pointless struggle is eating up his Majesty’s precious time, I must end this now, “Slumber” August cast as a wave of intense drowsiness fell upon Irene.

“All resistances up, Deus Corona!” She called forth as the exhaustion subsided and she pushed the Wizard King Back and flew up into the air. I may not know what type of magic he's using, but it won’t matter once I take it away.

“Separation Enchantment” Irene called as she attempted to Rob August of his Magic Power a titanic blast engulfed the area as she did so as sparks of Ethernano populated the atmosphere, but yet again when the smoke cleared, August stood tall.

August suddenly jumped narrowly avoiding slimy white projectiles that splashed across the area. Immediately after he jumped again to avoid a spread of black bands, as Juliet Sun and Heine Lunasea jumped to Irene’s side.

“Hey you step away from Lady Irene you big Dummyhead” Juliet said giving a raspberry.

“Are you hurt Ma’am? We came as soon as we could” Heine said.

Irene floated down with a confident smile, “I’m doing fine my little ones, he’s only giving me a bit of trouble, so do me a favor and hold him off for me.”

August raised an eyebrow, “Laughable, is your ego truly so inflated you think your minions stand a chance against me?”

“Oh hear that girls?'' sounds like he’s afraid, well, I can’t say he doesn’t have a good reason, BERSERKER!” A red energy emanated from Irene’s staff that quickly engulfed the two girls and began magically increasing their power, they grew sharp fangs, pointed ears, and glowing yellow eyes, becoming monsters before August’s eyes.

“Sick em” Irene jokingly said as her loyal assassins rushed forward at speeds August struggled to track.

August was quickly put on the defensive as Juliet tossed waves of slime, he spun his staff around really quickly to block them, but then found it burning and eroding away. Heine followed up by wrapping August from behind in bands and shocking him with such force as to turn what remained of the staff to ashes.

August suddenly tore through the bands with his sheer power and brought his hand up, “Rip” he called as the two beastly girls were bombarded with a series of wind blades, but they powered through the attacks as if they didn’t feel them and kicked August back.

Overwhelmed, August activated his hearing magic, and shut his eyes. He listened to everything around him, the muscles in the girls bodies, that allowed him to flawlessly dodge their subsequent assaults, the thoughts in their minds that allowed him to avoid the magic spells they were going to cast at him so he could counter, even Irene’s mind was opened to him, letting him know what she was planning.

“NO!” August yelled as he suddenly knocked both girls upside the head and made a dash for Irene, but he wasn’t fast enough.

“Universe One...” a Crimson glow of red quickly spread throughout the whole environment and moved August spatially through the terraforming landscape. August fell into a canyon with a Geyser on one wall and a volcano on the other which both simultaneously erupted on him at once. Thinking quickly August put up a barrier around himself to block the blasts before falling into the Ocean floor. The crushing lack of oxygen forced August to use Crush magic to destroy all the water up to the surface, where he saw Irene’s giant Eye watching everything that he was put through. Juliet and Heine were suddenly brought up next to him and through some attacks of their own which August continued to dodge with impunity, a fact Irene found very interesting.

August grabbed one of Heine’s bands and violently whipped her into Juliet when Irene Enchanted the air in front of him to set a blaze. This stalled him for a second, but like the enchantments before was soon nullified and dissipated. Irene then decided just to enchant the ocean floor itself to explode. Hearing this happening, August activated his Reflector Magic, when the blast went off, it got redirected to blast into Juliet, Heine and Irene’s giant eye.

August breathed angrily, as Irene spatially warped before him. “So that’s it, who would have guessed the Great Wizard King was nothing but a simple Copycat” August’s eyes widened.

“It’s no wonder you had to dodge my girls, so I doubt you can handle this!” Irene said as her hand changed to a golden glow. August rushed forward putting everything he had into a punch.

“Conceptual Enchant” Irene said as she cast a Spirit Energy spell and August fell away to a puddle on the ground, being turned into a liquid.

“Hmmph, how the mighty have fallen, come on girls we’re leavin...WH” Irene said as she suddenly felt an immense danger, the Air itself was sick and trembling. She turned to see the fluid that made up August turn into squares and float up to reform in the sky, only now his markings were glowing Red.

“Irene Belserion, you have made yourself an Enemy of the mighty Alvarez Empire!” The Earth itself warped and twisted, the clouds above caught aflame, and the power could be felt from orbit.

Heine and Juliet grew terrified as Irene desperately cast a series of spells to stop August, but in a panicked shock, found her magic wasn’t working! Irene suddenly collapsed to her knees coughing, and witnessed a pool of her own blood come out as she did. “You...You Wouldn’t?!”

“You know nothing of love, you are a Monster, a Monster who abandons her own children, tortures the defenseless, and Monsters, must BURN, I cast the Ancient Forbidden Spell, Ars Magia!”

A white energy with the heat of a dwarf star emanated from every space of land in a city wide area, as everything on the ground was turned into particles of vaporized matter, leaving nothing but an empty void of charred white sand where the ground used to be.

August floated back down to the ground, using his Hearing magic, he listened for any movement, and thought that might point to her survival, and heard nothing. He opened his eyes, “and so, the monster is Dead”

“Monster? Oh No, I’m something MUCH Worse…”

August’s eyes widened in shock as suddenly an Enormous Red Arm shot up from beneath the ground and punched August into the sky.

The Giant Mighty Sage Dragon Roared as it climbed out from beneath the Earth. August tried to hear its thoughts but it was totally silent to his hearing magic. “Do you understand my power NOW Wizard King? I will show you true Despair!” she yelled, flying up to him as he fell to Earthland.
“Sink!” August cast, but the beast was unaffected and threw a Titanic slash with her claws. August put a barrier around himself, but it shattered like glass as soon as the blow connected and batted August into the ground, causing immense pain.

Struggling to get up, he took aim at her with his finger and fired magic bullets at the beast, at any weak point he could think of, even her eyes, but it made no difference.

“Hahahaa, is it sinking in yet wizard? You never stood a chance against me! Prepare to be Obliterated by a Master Enchanter, Deus SEMA!”

Many dozens of specks of light appeared in the sky, as Irene called forth a full shower of Meteorites towards August. From every direction they zoomed towards him at speeds he could barely keep up with. Using his Crush magic he cleared a path to run but quickly found himself overwhelmed as the rocks started to graze him, taking more and more flesh. A meteor hit him in the chest and knocked him to his knees before 3 more struck him in the face and knocked him flat. August looked up just in time to see a Meteor the size of a palace being ridden by the very dragon he was fighting. Goodbye August, this is Your Calamity” she said as it crashed directly into him Carving a great crater in the ground with its massive impact.

The Asteroid suddenly violently exploded in a wave of energy that threw the Dragon Irene into a nearby mountain.

Irene recoiled in pain at the unexpected damaged she had just received, looking at August standing with a powerful glow

“Wha-He...Hurt Me? Impossible, how could he..Wait…”

August leaned back and crossed his arms, “Sage Dragon…”

Irene’s eyes grew wide, “Not Good..”

“ROAAAAAARRRR!!!!” The Dragon was Violently Smashed Through the Mountain by a powerful wave of sage. Irene flew up into the air and breathed a blast of Sage of her own. Taking to the skies himself, August charged towards the dragon, who thrust her tail forward like a Scorpion, only for him to meet with a powerful headbutt that disintegrated the Air between them making a loud thunder clap. August grabbed Irene’s tail and flipped her over himself, tossing her below him where he proceeded to punch the large target again and again as they flew towards Earthland and she crashed into the ground.

August remained in the air as he charged up and threw dozens and dozens of sage blasts from his hands, bombarding the dragon, not holding anything back, he COULDN’T hold anything back. But despite all his efforts, all the sage magic he threw suddenly got gathered together and sucked into his draconic foes mouth.

“HAHAHAHAHA, DELICIOUS!” she called in a satisfied manner. Irene at speeds faster than she had been fighting before, suddenly flew up and swatted August with her enormous hand, she smashed him into the ground with enough force to impale her middle claw through his torso as August screamed and struggled beneath her….

“You Old Fool! Don’t you know you can’t attack a Slayer with their own Element?! Sage only makes Me Stronger!” Irene spat in a mix of joy and rage.

August chuckled to himself along with her, “I know, but I needed to buy some time to cast this,” August said, holding up his arm to reveal a Dragon Slayer Seal causing Irene’s eyes to go wide.

“If I understand it right, this means ANYTHING I cast can affect you now?” August said as the rest of his arm filled in with golden glowing runes, his mothers spell.

“You will Pay for your Insolence!” Irene yelled swatting down at him, her clawed dragon hand intending on crushing him. August held his arm aloft towards, his foe, his equal….”Fairy Glitter”

A shining golden light enveloped the horizon as the impact of a dragon foot shook the earth, before what had been a deafening battlefield for the past 11 minutes fell eerily silent.

As the smoke cleared, a Giant Dragon could be seen standing tall, before just as suddenly, collapsing in on itself as a pile of dust behind a lone wizard walking out from the clearing.

“I thank you for your Enchantment Magic’s, Irene, it will go to good use without you…”

KO!

Results:

There is a very good reason these two are considered equals, as this is one of the most intensely close fights that I have ever had the pleasure of calling, but in the end, August is the more likely victor. This is a fight where the two sides are damn near equal in every category, having stats, skill, survivability and intelligence all virtually neck and neck, so it is really a measure of the finer details that were going to decide this. For example, Irene could sense her way through August’s illusions, or raise her stats to compensate for his Slow Magic. While on the other hand August’s Hearing Magic prevents him from being overwhelmed from many angles at once, and has more reliable movement options. The biggest factor in this match was comparing Irene’s Draconic Magic Resistance, and August’s Copy Magic Canceling to see which one was a more effective defense. Both of these abilities could allow them to shrug off practically the others entire arsenal of powers, but each also had a weakness the other could exploit if one reads into the fine print. With Irene’s Enchantment Magic she could easily create magic artifacts to use against August, which, as they would now be considered Holder Magic, he would not be able to block with Copy. Heck even her two lackeys, Juliet and Heine, count as holder magic artifacts to attack him. Not to Mention if she used her Suspiria to cast her enchantments, then she could directly hax him down with her normal spells. But, as August keeps the nature of his Copy Magic secret, she would have to figure it out over the course of the battle, and would not be something she would think to use in the short term. Even assuming Irene did know of it immediately, August would be far from helpless. His copied Hearing Magic would alert him to Irene’s plans ahead of time, and his regular Barrier magic was strong enough to block a magical attack from Laxus that would have killed Ajeel in a single strike. Laxus was far more powerful than Erza at the time (and even currently in the series Erza is only equal to him) meaning this would be more than enough to Block the majority of Irene’s attacks. This is especially relevant because all of Irene’s attacks that could be considered Haxes like Mind Transference, Power Nullification and Transmutation, require her to cast on her foes body directly. This means her method for Victory would boil down to bombarding him with numerous enchanted objects and beating him to death in her dragon form, which accounting for figuring out his weaknesses and overcoming his secondary defenses, would take a considerably long time OR she could use Suspiria to direct cast her hax on him, but assuming she used enchantments with Regular Ethier Nano before figuring out his copy magic, August could simply spam Deus Zero to protect himself. On the other side, Irene’s Dragon form is Impervious to every type of magic in August’s arsenal, including all the ones he has copied. In this state, he cannot physically harm her, read her mind, slow her down in time, and even his big name spells like Crush, Fairy Glitter and Ars Magia would fail against her scales. BUT, Irene IS susceptible to these attacks before she shows her true self, as seen when Larcade’s Magic affected her, and once Irene takes this form, a new kind of magic gets added to the table, Sage Dragon Slayer Magic. We know that August could copy the specialized Dragon Slayer Magics as he had no problem copying Erik before, and that guy is actually a Poison Dragon Slayer so the same principle would apply. Even though Dragon Slayer magic is the one magic type that CAN Harm Dragons, this by itself would not be able to stop Irene as it is still Sage magic and Dragon Slayers are immune to their own element, Irene could even absorb the Sage magic and use it to replenish her magic power and grow stronger, so it looks like it would be inadvisable, or at the very least not very helpful. But, since August would basically be guaranteed to have Copied her Enchantment magic before she went Dragon Mode, and become a Master Enchanter at that, August would be able to Enchant himself with a Dragon Seal and effectively Turn ALL of His Normal Magics into Dragon Slayer Magic, freely allowing him to use any of his Hax from before, bypassing her greatest defense. Irene also couldn’t use Deus Zero to Nullify the Seal as Copy would Neutralize any Enchantment Magic, and Deus Zero has been neutralized before by another Deus Zero. Don’t get me wrong, Irene could still very well Defeat August, as said, with Suspiria Irene could even have potentially made her enchantments unable to be Copied, as that uses spiritual energy rather than the Ethernano that Magic is made up of. But she wouldn’t know to do that right off the bat and even then that is only providing her a way to harm August with her hax, something August always had on the table to harm her. Given how long it would take her to realize the nature of his Copy Magic, August managing to score a lucky shot with Ars Magia or Fairy Glitter before she pulled that off is just more likely. Essentially because August and Irene have equally easy ways to get by each other’s defenses, but August could still hax her in her base state and wouldn’t have to deduce how her magic works first; his job is ultimately easier. It was an Extremely close match but in the end, The Wizard King proved himself worthy of his title.

The Winner Is August.

  1. Congrats on your first intra-universal blog Thor and what it blog it was :O Instead of going for something with relatively few factors like my Guardian Senshi Royale blog you instead went the other right and picked something just as contested from what I've seen but with a ten thousand different factors. Nontheless you analyzed it admirably! I was very impressed at not just how close the battle was, but how well you demonstrated that, and how well you found the smaller advantages regardless. Truth be told, sometimes I feel your matches seem much closer then mine and am in admiration at your ability to find such fine details.

As someone who knows very little about the verse it was really impressive seeing these two powerhouses capable of casually deleting countries and continents, warping spacetime, messing around with concepts and copying all of your opponents abilities. I was wondering how you could possibly figure out all the small advantages when both were so ludicrous and more importantly so close. As you said in your analysis, the two were truly neck and neck in every stat.

Your battle scene was good, and more so it was good in a way I totally didn't expect. With character that have such a versatile pool of powers or a singular extremely versatile ability, I expected this fight to be a lot of messing around at first as the two counter ability after ability but instead the fight was really fast-paced and intense, which I found refreshing and fitting for such titanic forces, especially when one is so focused as August.

My favorite part of the fight was definitely August's statement towards Irene being a monster that doesn't care for her children. I was liking what I was hearing about both characters in their analysis, but this sentiment made it more personal to me, and entrenched their conflicts emotionally. Truthfully when I read Ars Magia's description I didn't see why it was an ultimate magic because it sounded somewhat default however that section really carried the sense of why it's such a big deal, which I thought was brilliantly contrasted with August's cold fury. It was a wonderful parallel of the literal actions in the scene and the emotions behind the scene, aided by your really good description of the period.

Going into the conclusion, and I sincerely hope no one is for some reason reading this before reading the blog as it contains spoiler but I thought it was really interesting how in a sense Irene was undone by her own versatility. It sounds as if August had to fight a dragon as strong as her dragon form without any magic, he would have no way to harm it...perhaps this is in some way a parallel to their characters; she just as powerful as he, but cursed by her own magic while his magic comes study and refinement of magical potential of being born from two powerful magical sources.

Beyond that I thought the conclusion was absolutely amazing, one of your best. You articulated all the points, major and minor concisely and really showed the sheer depth of your analysis with all the smaller points considered such as as the ability of Deus Zero to counter itself or Irene's haxes requiring her to cast on the body directly. Parts of it got a bit confusing to someone without knowledge of FT, but that is only a logical consequence of doing such a complex intra-universal battle.

I'm excited for the next blog! :) Beowulf was one of my top 3 Skullgirls characters and I'm excited to read about him.

  2. This was a treat to read Thor. I don’t tend to think about in-universe fights as much, but you really saw something special with this fight so I’m happy you decided to go for it. Knowing the source material (well the anime at least) also made me more invested in this fight, just knowing some of the context beforehand.

The analysis was fantastic for both characters. I always look forward to to your retellings of the characters stories, which tend to be entertainingly written with effective use of images from the series. I’ve said something similar before, but you can almost divorce it from the versus stuff and just use it as an effective presentation of a character’s story. Side note, about the analysis but I really like Fairy Tail keeps dragons an intimidating threat throughout the series rather than go through a common Shonen problem of intimidating characters quickly becoming irrelevant through massive power increases by the main characters. I don’t know how true it is for 100 year quest arc but still I just think it’s cool.

The battle was very effective in showing how they would counter each other and their interactions (plus Fairy Tail music is always effective in battles). Stuff like Irene finding out about August’s copying magic really felt like it happened naturally in the written fight making it capture that Fairy Tail feel very well. I found it really compelling that this was turned into a thematic struggle by the virtue of it being a bad parent vs someone with an obsessive loyalty to his parent. Seriously, August basically calling out Irene for her cruelty towards her child might be the best part of the fight. It was nice to see that my prediction was right, but you weren’t kidding about the battle being close. The sheer options at both of their disposals make this fight fun to think about.

So overall, great blog and looking forward to you returning to Skullgirls.
